Default S2 LSD Trans installed

I just installed a 944 s2 Lsd transmission in my car. The car is a different car now. Much better throttle response in 3rd and 4th. Top speed in 3rd is now 85mph, I have not had a chance to try 4th yet, but i'll let you know.
Now the trade off
gearing for top speed is now down to 158 from 175 ish (not that I tried this yet)

This particular transmisson was built for the purpose of racing, so it has 80% shims in the lsd so the lsd binds at low speed tight corners, I am checking on having the shims removed.

My feeling is that a stock S2 LSD trans is the way to go in our cars!

I was told by the previous owner of the trans that he could hit 155 on the straight at Summit point in his purpose built 951 racer with 340 rwhp!

I have been driving with a lsd S2 transmission for almost a year. It is certainly THE WAY TO GO! Very good throttle response and the car pulls like crazy. I've managed to get 155mph on the Autobahn. The only drawback is an almost unuseable first gear!

the car accelerates faster than before as well. 1st is stronger. I was told the S@ TRANNY IS GOOD FOR 1/2 second faster 0-60. I plan to test it this Sunday at a local PCA autoX, and then on Sept 20th at Summit Point at a charity track event.

How is the transmission LSD? Ive always wondered why the differential is not what people replace, as that is what should be Limited Slip or not...

Am I totally backwards from my BMW background?

Thanks.

Transaxle design of the 951 means the transmission and differential are integrated into one unit at the back of the car.

Because it's a transaxle and the Diff is in the case. The S2's gearing is different so it's just easier to replace the box then the diff and gears.

I've always wondered about a 968 six speed in a 951. Anybody ever done that?

I've used the 968 6-spd for years. Great acceleration, just don't like the extra shifts at times, otherwise it's great.
I posted a shart displaying the gearing differences betwen the 968, 951 gearings.. Do a search, if you can't find it, I'll dig up the hard copy.

I love the trans, I am just having a hard time with the 80% lock on the rear diff. The diff has shims that I need to remove, I do not know how labor intensive this is??

I will live with the lock up on the diff, as I still have the stock trans to pop in if I have a problem.

Found it, and also found answer to my next question which was going to be if the torque tube had to change. Thanks John.

Regards,
Russell

No, Torque tube does not have to change. However, one of the half-shafts must be from the 968. Also, you must use 968 shifter & shift linkage. You nolonger have a speedometer pickup, but if you have ABS it can be done.

John,

What is involved with installing the 968 6-speed? I have a 6-speed, but I am trying to do as much research as possible for converting the torque tubes over so I can use a 951 lightweight flywheel/clutch.

Thanks,

Wes

Has anyone already changed the ratios in order to have the overall same as 951 ratios but dispatched on 6 ratios ?
