Chris:

Very, very, very sweeeeeet! Well, I guess I'm going to forget about buying that Ferrari Stradale and put in an order with you for that same engine! I just want a lot more bling-bling though.

It looks totally awesome!!!

Hey pal, I'm kool. I was in Italy (Maranello) at the factory on vacation, but not now. My avatar is from the museum itself, tons and tons of Ferraris, let alone F1 cars!! I'm a total Ferrari nut.

Anyway you're car is looking kick but pal! PM me if you like, I don't want to hi-jack this thread by Chris. You have to admit, that is a bad-*** engine he is building?! My mouth is watering just looking at it! Hummm. A 3.1L 16V? Yummy!

Hello 3.1L 16V and goodbye Stradale!

Ancient Chinese secret....

Actually you have to do a lot of mods to get the cam drive system to work – the cam gears are the least of it!

Agreed, Chris...with the polished edge, and a flat black (satin) center you'd get my vote for numero uno

The pictures have the ‘dummy’ head on it (it’s a ‘S’ head not an S2 – if you look close you can see the water passage mismatch)
The final head is an S2 head with Ferrea exhaust valves and springs (good to 2200 f) running two exhaust cams. Initially I will run the stock profile and work from there. The stock profile is a good starting point.
Milledge does make S2 cams – but they are for NA motors, They will not work well for a turbo set up.
The twin cam drive is a lot more than just the gears – you have to have a different crank drive gear due to the lower tooth count of the cam gear. The belt is a special piece, longer than the stock part. There is no belt cover made for the upper part, I will run without it. I am considering fabricating a belt guard for protection from the hood (very tight clearance there).
The valve cover is a 968 part – I just like the look better!
The turbo is a GT35R with a .70 A/R.
Here are some small pics of the intake manifold from SFRs website.
As for the power guessing –
I will run testing at 1 bar, 1.2 bar 1.4 bar and maybe a little more if I feel the need for a big number.
I will be using either race gas (100 oct) or a street/special mix.

For the cover, I'd make it work with the car's paint color in the engine bay.

Thinking about it, where did you come up with a timing belt to fit?

Nice idea,…except the car will have multi colored graphics – it’s a track only car. I am leaning towards black or mat silver.

The match up of cam gears, crank gear and belt requires some custom parts and machining. I wish it were easier!

That is absolutly one beautiful looking motor. I like the valve cover how it is. But if you wanted to finish the rest of it off in a color matched color the body that would be cool!

Bitch'n

Hey did you step the compression ratio down in the 16V motor. How did you compensate for a lower compression?

What size are the valves? The .7 a/r must be for the T04S compressor housing, what's the a/r of the turbine? 0.64, 0.82 or 1.06? (unless it's not a GTBB from Garrett)

Running stock throttle body?

Again....very nice work, looking forward to see that thing on the engine dyno!

8:1 I thought about bumping it up a bit but stuck to the 8:1 so I can run some good boost!
Previous post asked how I plowered the compression ration....simle I just speced the custom pistons that way! Sleeved motor runngin JE pistons...I can get any ratio I want!
