Recently purchased Bilstein Escort Cup kit, now I have ?'s...
I purchased this kit new from one of the many Porsche aftermarket parts suppliers which shall remain nameless at this time. After receiving the kit, I noticed that the front struts are different colors. Anyone run into this? I really don't care since the car is not a show car, but the other thing that is bugging me is that one of the dust boots is black with an "H&R" logo and the other is blue with the "Bilstein" logo. I have inquired with the people I purchased the kit from, and they claim that this is what comes from Bilstein and there is no option. Also, I was shorted the camber/caster plates that should have been included as well and shipped the wrong spring perches. At this point, the company I'm dealing with has tried to correct the shortages and wrong parts, but stands firm that there is no fix for the different color front struts or dust boots. Could someone confirm or disclaim this? I'm just trying to find out if they are giving me a line of crap. Thanks!

I have the Bilstein cup struts. Mine are a matching pair color wise, but I have seen others that are colored differently so I would not be surprised. The struts should be marked with the Bilstein part numbers mine are AK1120 and 1121. Bilstein seem to use different colors between earlier and later production but as long as they are the right numbers ie the right valving it doesn't matter.

I'll guess Lindsey Racing!!! I got my Escort kit from them, and it was trashed...wrong boxes, wrong parts, wrong bushings....To top it off I had to call and email many times just to get them to fix it...and I gave up and bought the stuff to make it right from someone else because of thier unwillingness to fix it right! Poor Customer Service

At this point, I'd rather not say who the supplier is since I'm still working with them on this order. The front struts I received are one silver and one gold. The part #'s are correct, and the salesperson assured me that the valving is the same between the two. My concern is that I'm shelling out over $2k for this kit, and I think that it should be correct. I realize that there are more expensive kits out there, but for me, this is a rather large chunk of change. Now, every time I lift up the car, I'm going to be looking at one silver strut and one gold strut. To me, that is what I call hookey. I thought that Bilstein would be better than this.
For those of you who have the Bilstein Escort Cup kit and are happy with it, who did you purchase it from? I'm considering returning this kit and purchasing elsewhere since there seems to be several vendors selling it.
Thanks!

The gold color was the norm for the older struts. I've seen both. Have you tried to return and have replaced the one gold strut? Why don't you pm me and we can talk about specific parts that you got and I'll help you out with what might be missing and where to get it.
This already has a slight flavor of a vendor bashing thread starting. LR's service has always been known to be very good.

SECOND... I challenge you to do a search here on Rennlist, 951 forums or Clark's Garage, and find a majority, or even a substantial minority, that have had a completely bad experience with LR that wasn't corrected to the buyers satisfaction.
I'm no LR stooge, as some people around here are, and I've disliked some of their public statements made here, through the years, but they are in fact well regarded in terms of customer service.
If you've had a problem personally, than say so. Don't attempt to paint your single experience with the brush of a negative generalization. As I said, I challenge you to find as much negative feedback as positive.
Your generalization is bound to attrack criticism.

Well I'm about to buy a set from Lindsey, but I want to make sure they are the same colour - otherwise I'll find a different supplier or a different product! (which is a shame because I've had nothing but good experiences in my limited contacts with them!)

What spring rate you getting?

I'm getting the softer valving/spring rate because the car will still be a daily driver for a few years. When it becomes a commited track car, I'll sell the bilsteins and get a higher end adjustable setup.
