You can turn off different bands on the V1 also.

I heard something about a new Ku band being used in NY, and everyone is rushing to update their radar detectors...?

I can honestly recommend the BEL Rx65. Always at the very top of the reviews you will find floating around (manytimes higher than the V1). I couldn't be happier. Comes with a cool remote alert built into the power cord, which I've found to be a perfect fit for the dash location of the cigarette lighter in the 951. You can also get a hardwired cord that also has the remote threat indicator. Plus the voice alerts are nice -- something the V1 doesn't have, so you can keep your eyes on the road and not squinting at the display for what band is being picked up.

I just got mine upgraded from BEL directly (out of warranty) for around $80, but it would have been free within the warranty period. I debated between the BEL Rx65 and the V1, but in the end it came down to all the false alarms with the V1. I can't stand all the damn chirping at every little false threat so it would be useless to me if I couldn't trust it. (Two of my friends have V1s). Oh, and the BEL has a titanium shell, not plastic.

And the Rx65 does Ku band too (though I turn it off since my area doesn't use it)

According to V1, all new V1s have Ku capability and you can reprogram the unit to receive Ku which is used primarily in Europe. See more on this at http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp

I thought the Bel was a titanium COLORED case, not actual titanium? Yes, I've heard very good things about it also.

Hmmm... what colour is titanium? -Isn't it silver? Why don;t they just say "silver-coloured" then? -Oh, I get it... titanium is trendy!

For the record, the V1 does NOT have a plastic shell, it's ALWAYS been metal.

bel has a plastic case that is titanium (silver) colored. if it were real titanium, it would be worth well over $500.

Build Quality

The build quality of each of these detectors is impressive - the Valentine One being the most so. It appears to be the “tank” of the bunch with its “box-like” magnesium case. Both the RX65 and 8500 X50 are also well built and the controls of all three brands are of the highest quality in feel.

The V1 appeared to be most resistant to scuffs and minor dings and its metal case serves to further isolate/shield its electronics.

A Valentine and Jammer didn't stop the white lambo in the Bull Run Rally from getting a ticket today in our town and lucky not arrested. It's a felony here to have a jammer.

To be most effective any detector relies on other traffic to generate a radar signal for a warning. If the roads are without traffic, instant on radar is deadly.

Well, from your link, I don't see anything about the RX65's shell, whether it is metal or painted titanium color, but I'll take your word for it. However, they did have this to say in their conclusion:

"Taking everything into consideration- if we had only to pick one radar detector to take with us on our trip, it would be the Beltronics RX65 Pro, Rev 3.6"

"Ergonomically, [the RX65 Pro] was superior. We loved the quick re-programming ability, the volume levels obtainable, band audio clarity, its smaller size, the overall quietness of operation [lack of falsing] even on highway mode, that it can be operated in Dark Mode, provided remote volume adjustment with audio assistance -at a touch of a button [on the lighter plug] and that changes to operation are accompanied by textual/tonal confirmation. Most importantly, though, it was consistently quick at alerting to approaching ALL radar threats encountered."

The site where that review resides sells Bel. The review seems self serving as it is copyrighted by them and designed to sell Bel.

Hey, it was nize who mentioned the site, not me. and besides, as someone else mentioned, you can only buy the v1 directly, so obviously this site (who sells not only the bel, but also whistler, cobra, pni and escort) doesn't sell valentine products.

Good old Mikey showed up to the Putnam Park Club Race/DE with a Yellow Carrera GT last weekend. My buddy was talking to him for the longest time and knew the face but couldn't remember why, till he got his name. Margins must be good ....

Weird thing is here in FW, the FW school district installs 2 Ka guns in all of the school buses. I don't know if they are speed guns used to scare people running radar or some type of collision avoidance system or what but everyone of them shows up as 2 Ka sources on mine and everyone else with a good radar that I know of.
From Speedlab website:

"Smart Radar Drones - Using drone radar is nothing new. Its been used for decades. Thousands of drones have been placed in DOT work zones, on ambulances, on school busses, on police cars, on agriculture tractors, in school zones, and in neighborhoods seeking speed reductions."

"Radar Drones - During the same field testing activity, SML determined the effective range of new radar drones from Traffic Safety Products, LLC. Drones are used by Radar Drones on School Buseshighway departments and police to mimic police radar guns keying up radar detectors used by motorists. The newly developed drones feature a variable timer to replicate police "instant on" radar transmissions. Radar detector drivers think the police are ahead and slow down. SML was instrumental in placing drones over 1,000 FCC approved, Part 15, radar drones on school busses in Texas and New Mexico during the last year. A new solar powered radar drone was also evaluated during SML's June testing for longevity of operation. The evaluation of the solar powered drones will be provided to the State of North Carolina as SML met with state officials, at their request, twice in the last year to evaluate new highway safety technologies.
