Tire Recommendations Please
I currently have Bridgestone RE730's on my 86 stock phone dials, and am planning to replace them.
Here's what I'd like:
1. Quiet freeway cruising (the RE730's drone like a truck, which I hate!)
2. Max dry-weather handling -- no snow/ice, very little rain
3. Tread life not so important
Suggestions on type and size?

Why not search the reviews at http://www.tirerack.com? They should provide the info you need to make a tire choice.

tirerack is a great place, just make sure to note what car a person drives with their review as that can help you put some perspective to a person's review. I recently picked up a set of Kumho MX's and am very impressed with them for the money. If course if budget is no concern and you are wanting excellent dry traction, go with the Bridgestone's, either the S02 (if you can find them) or the S03.

When i first got Bridgestone's Potenza, they were quiet, smooth and very nice.
After 8-9 months, and 10,000-25,000kms they are very noisy at highway speds (100-120kps), i got my eye on something else, since the tires now are 1.5 years old and need replacement.
Tires are 205/55/16 front and 225/50/16 rear, im going for 225's up front and 245's in the rear this time. Thanks to the upgrades, those 225's in the rear just spin on 1st and 2nd gears on WOT.

The best Tire
Bridgestones are way over priced, you can get some Hankooks for less than $400 for all four, I paid $326 for mine, 225/50-16 and 245/45-16. The new Ventus RS-2 Z212 beat the much hyped Kumho Ecsta MX in a Car and Driver test done by Tirerack. It has 200 treadwear and is better on Dry than wet, excellent sidewall, and better looking tread pattern, similar to the Yoko Advan Neova, one of the best tires in the world, Check out the roadtest of the eleven best tires in the world...click on Download full report on bottom...

Thanks for the ideas. I've been assuming that other high-performance tires will not have the same noise/drone issue as my RE730's (which are just tooooo loud on the freeway -- like a 4x4). Can anyone comment on the noise level of these recommended tires?

I've been running the Kumho SPTs for about 6 months now and really like them. I think they're out to replace the Supras. I was a little reluctant to try them after having a set of Supras a few years ago (worst tire ever!), but I was pleasently suprised. They're really quiet on the highway, kick major butt in the rain, and hold up fairly well at the track (as much as anyone would expect a street tire should). For the money, I don't think you can beat them.
But if cost is no object - go for a set of Pilot Sports for sure! They have great traction (both wet and dry) and treadlife is fairly good also.

Based on what? The ZRi's are pretty poular by a number of members here who have used them in a variety of ways (street, AutoX, and track). On what did this mechanic base his opinion? The Hancook dealer? I'm just saying that several people here have practical experience with them and they are not cheap (inexpensive, yes) and easily perform at a level with some more expensive tires.

I vote Fuzion ZRi. I've had them for about a year now and they've been fantastic. Exceptional grip even in the rain. i was going to get Yoko ES100's but there was a shipping strike so they were delayed, and I needed tires. I would probably even buy them again though.

Hankooks are better...Fuzions are ok for Mustangs, but for a Porsche?? Come on, plus the sidewalk is hideous!! It's not a mechanic, it's a guy who's been selling tires for the last 25 years at wholesale prices
