poor throttle response, stumbling TPS??
Alright Guys here is the problem,
my car wants to die when cold at idle most of the time, the throttle response is really poor and my car stumbles like a drunk *****. Can this be the TPS? I've replaced the O2, put NGK plugs in , new vac hoses, new boost hoses, rebuilt the TB. I suspect my GURU AFM MAP might be the problem or the knock sensor or the TPS. This problem has been going on for years and nothing I have done so far has cured it.
Any ideas???

I replaced TPS with new and it runs the same, like dog****!. I've been running it with the tps unplugged and it runs like a top. I couldn't get the damn thing to idle or rev fast with the new TPS plugged in and adjusted. I guess I just wasted the price of a new TPS and will just have to make do with it unplugged. I don't know what is wrong here, I even played with the idle air screw with no success, it hunts idle or dies.

hey chris951 .... I must be the voice of reason here..... if the car is running better without TPS you have a significant issue to adress. I would not even consider for one second to drive the car and "make do with it unplugged". TPS is very fundamental, CRITICAL part of engine management . You are guaranteed to F*ck stuff up bigtime running in that condition..... just sayin

Are you running too lean for cold idle? If you do not have a wideband 02 sensor, then could you go to a local shop and get the cold idle A/F readings? It should be around 12:1 or so. If the DME temperature sensor (blue one), is not operating properly then the DME cannot richen the cold idle A/F ratio.

I wish I had the time to mess with it more, but with it unplugged, I pull more vac, run a little rich, but not much, throttle response is great. I don't know if I want to risk messing the car up anymore than it is by pulling the chips. The ones in there are GURU so I'm not surprised if they are crap. I can't afford a wideband. I am running a little rich at idle, with the TPS plugged in there is a crazy rich problem, like I can see black smoke coming out the back.

many vehicles have this type of switch to let the computer know if you're accelerating, decelerating or idling.
the basic setting on the throttle linkage needs to be correct and then the tps adjusted.
sounds like an o2 sensor problem.

chris,
since you believe you are "running a little rich" [at idle, with the TPS plugged in there is a crazy rich problem, like I can see black smoke coming out the back], have you checked your fuel pressures [@ idle, @ part load, @ full load]? have you looked into the fuel pressure regulator?
out of curiosity, since this [rich running] condition has been "going on for years", how much boost does your turbo generate and what is your boost threshold in second, third, and fourth gear? in other words, at what point [rpm] does your turbo generate ~2 psi? i noticed you installed an SFR cat-back but wasn't sure if you were still running an "intact" cat.
