Removing/installing valve springs-with cylinder head on
I have one of those universal overhead valve spring removal tools, for cylinder heads on the car.
I have problems trying to remove the springs, no matter how much i try, the universal tool slips off the spring after a certain compression.
For those who removed the valve springs on their cars (with the cylinder head still installed), what tool did you use and if there are any tips?
TIA

A Mechanic at a Porsche Dealership!
It seemed to work pretty good!
I know nothing worse than a smart *** when you need help. Maybe one day we will meet and you can put one upside my head for that!

I have made a custom tool for the 944 of my own design.
John at Viteesse has it right now.
Maybe if you swear to Allah NEVER to second guess my advice after you solicit it - based on something you read in a Marvel comic book - I will send you a picture of the tool.
you won't be finding it in ANY store.

I bought one of those universal tools and had a hard time making it work - there's not enough room around the springs to get the tool in there properly and get the springs compressed enough to get the retainers out. I ended up making my own tool from a bar of steel that I bolt to the head. Also, make sure to blow compressed air into the cylinder. You'll be able to get the valve springs off without doing that (just make sure piston is at TDC), but you'll never get them back on without it.

That tool looks very similar to my Snap-On valve-spring tool.... haven't had a chance to try it out on the 951, but has worked great so far!

That is not the proper tool for a turbo - ESPECIALLY if you are making the spring rates even higher!!
That tool is dangerous enough (take out insurance on your fingers and eyes before using) for the soft NA springs.
I will send any Rennlist member a picture of the proper tool (easy to make) who asks me - except Hosrom.

Brad-Cam: That tool fits just fine around the springs, but keeps slipping off the springs when they get compressed.
Problem is, it takes 2 weeks to get parts and tools to do the job, i would really hate it to put everything back in and get another tool.
Special Tool: Stop busting my ***** and send me a picture of the tool please -

Tom: My valve stem seals (at least 2 of them) came off, i need to replace them (all).
Also, what if one of you guys upgraded the springs/retainers? do you remove the cylinder head?
