Default Tial WG question?

I think my arm has healed enough to wrench on the car again but I have a question. I've read of a few leakage problems at the inlet adaptor plate to header. Some people recommended making a copper gasket. I only want to do this once. Any suggestions? BTW these are the Pauer SS adaptors.

Thanks

I used SCE copper gaskets on my Tial.

I just bought the whole Tial set up from SFR. (it should make it to the shop by thursday).

I have Auth II Stage II chips with the hollow bolt and a lil KKK 26/6

Special tool has given me some great advice about these waste gates. Thanks Special tool

Does anybody else have comments about their operation or warnings on basically a stock system?

Are you thinking of the 2-hole gaskets b/t the WG and adaptor. I'm looking for the seal between the flat adaptor at the inlet and thestock piping. Is there a groove for a steel sealing ring on the OE pipe side only but not in the adaptor? I havent had it off yet so this is still hazy to me. There's a sealing ring on the OE wastegate if I remember right. It's the flat rectangular adaptor in the photo.

Steve,

On the 90 deg inlet pipe, the factory flange uses a crush ring gasket. On the dump tube, there is a raised shoulder on the 4 bolt flange which also uses a crush ring.

Take a look at item #8 (931 123 195 00) and item #11 (944 111 205 04)

On my car, the seal was comprised of one thicker sealing ring and about 5 or 6 really thin ones stacked on top. These fitted into the groove. I reused them since I did not have replacements and have not had a chance to test yet (car disassembled for WPump, Belts, EMounts, SciVision MAF, Tial 38mm etc )

The seal you describe is still a one piece seal that set up much like an accordian. I've used this style as well. If you are replacing a stock WG, chances are that the crush ring style are what you're going to find.

I think I'll take apart a spare WG and 2-piece X-over and make sure I have everything. I bought every exhaust gasket from the same PET drawing 2 months ago and figured the outlet side to dump pipe was a sealing donut rather than a crush ring due to the depth of the groove. It will be clearer when I start pulling it off...we all just hate to not have the right part on hand when ready to go.

Thanks to All

The donut seals you're talking about are still used, but just in a different location.

The donuts are used to seal the crossover pipe to the elbow (item#3b) and the larger donut is used to seal the dump tube to the cat pipe (item #14)

In total, you're going to need 4 new factory gaskets to install a new WG. Small donut and crush ring for inlet pipe and large donut and crush ring for dump tube.
