944 Turbo Cup springs

I recently bought a set of used Bilstein Escort Cup struts/shocks that have the original size progressive springs. Not sure if they are the originals or just original style. Any markings I should look for? I can shoot you some pics if you are interested. I am going to standard 2.5" spring so I would be willing to sell these. I also have the lower spring perches for the larger diameter progressive springs if you are interested.

Hi Skip,
I just looked at the spring and the dimensions are
Length : 12 inches
Top diameter: 5 inches @ .580 inches coil diameter
Lower perch diameter: 4 inches @ .335 inches coil diameter
One blue dot
Also, the coil stays close to .550 inches almost for about 8 inches.
Let me know it yours look close to that.
Tx.
Ciao.
P.s. Yes, I would buy the pair.

I could be wrong , but if your looking for the Rothman's Cup springs, they are different than the escort series. On last call with Dave Lindsey he wasn't doing anything with springs and feels the market to justify production isn't there. Contact Will at PMR in NJ as he sevices a fleet of Cup cars or try Colin at CDOC. It will be a tough find. IMHO if your running a dedicated track car you can go linear. If your thought is to have it somewhat drivable on the street, the progessive springs with suspension and race seats produce concussion symptoms with every road bump!

The use of the terms "Escort" and "Firehawk" with Bilstein struts and shocks is a current Bilstein marketing terminology to designate different models/valving setups for the 944 series struts and shocks. It is ironic that Bilstein uses those terms, since the Escort and Firehawk cars came with Koni. Must be only for the US market, trying to appeal to name recognition of past US IMSA Firehawk and SCCA Escort racing series.... The Bilstein Escort Cup Struts and Shocks are basically the current version of the Bilsteins that were used on the Euro and Canadian Turbo Cup cars.
The US Escort/Club Sport Turbos and Club Sport 944S's that ran in theEscort Endurance Championship in 86-87 all came with Koni double adjustable suspension. However, they did use the same springs as the Turbo Cups, just with different perches because Koni strut bodies are larger diameter than Bilstein. For the Club Sports/Cups, there is a spring type/rate change between 86 and 87 and later. So the 86 Turbo Cups and 86 Escort cars used the same springs on bilstein and koni shocks respectively. The 87 and later Cups and 87 Escort cars used updated stiffer springs (front and rear), again on Bilstein and Koni suspension.
The 86 Turbo Cup front springs are constant diameter coils and wire, with varying pitch coils - they look very similar to a Weltmeister 200-250 lb/in spring. The rear shocks had a barrel type helper spring which looks the same as the 968 M030 rear spring.
The 87 and later Turbo Cup front springs have a varying coil diameter (they taper in towards the bottom) and the wire diameter also tapers. The rear springs are more of a traditional style spring (not the barrel type), but also have a slight wire diameter taper.
Picture is of the 87 and later Bilstein Turbo cup suspension and springs:

AMG - for some reason the forum will not let me send you a PM. Anyway the top coil thickness is .575" and the overall spring length is 11.75". You can email me at skips at aol.com if that's easier.

Hi Skip,
this seems to be the same as what I have. So, I'll take them with the lower perch. I'm leaving (In a couple of minutes for the Glen. I'll contact you next week to conclude the transaction.
Tx.

I have the Bilstein Escort struts with 2.25" 600# springs on my car - i also have an original unused set of the green Bilstein Cup struts with progressive springs sitting in the garage. From the feel of it, these original Cup struts appear stiffer - is the valving likely to be different from the 600/190 of the Escort type widely available now?
Is there anyway of determining what the valving is?

FYI - Lindsey Racing now has the 180-410 progressive front springs. They are better than the Porsche Motorsports springs because they are just longer enough uncompressed that they don't fall out of the hats when the car is jacked up. They have the same rates/ride height as the original Porsche Springs.
