Yea, I talked to an officer who pulled over a few. All they would say was they were coming from the north and heading south, lol.

One Lap of America gives the competitors a route book with maps. They also give the route book to the cops!

The One Lap organizers are very specific about what happens if you get popped breaking traffic laws enroute, will be interesting to see if that gets enforced. Given that the entry fee is $2500 or so (I am looking at doing this next year), that becomes a VERY expensive ticket.

shhhh, Karl! I have a reputation to protect around here... lol

Trust me, if I am paying a $2500 entry fee, I am not going to risk it over highway hijinx!

Um, One Lap could care less how many speeding tickets you get. In fact, they give an award at the end to the person who accumulates the most tickets. Good friends of mine have done One Lap multiple times and blatantly breaking the speed limit in transit happens all the time. One Lap doesn't condone it of course, but they have no control over what you do. They make you drive ridiculous distances in extremely short time spans. People go as fast as they possibly can to their next destination in the hopes of arriving early enough to catch a few hours sleep in a bed and grab a hot shower.

I guess I was reading the rules too literally. This is taken directly from their website for the rules on the 2006 event:

"Highway Laws: It is expected that competitors will confirm to all highway laws in the states that the event passes. Observed violations affecting the safety of the competitors, or other motorists, will result in immediate disqualification. Any violations of highway law resulting in a conviction is also grounds for disqualification."

I've heard that the Gumball Rally folks get stupid on the highways and give an award, but I thought Brock et al were running a much tighter ship, especially given the corporate sponsorship and visibility that they have. Good to know, I guess, but that may influence whether or not I participate in the future, since we were looking to get a charity sponsorship involved, and I doubt they'd be amused by such childish antics.

You gotta be kidding me, right? So a speeding ticket is a conviction? Your charity is going to be somehow besmirched if you get a speeding ticket for doing 85 in a 65? Please...

85 in a 65 is one thing, a caravan of folks running 120+ is something else completely. I'm no saint when I am on my own (feel free to ask around! lol) but if I am representing a not-for-profit charitable organization with their name on the side of my car, its a whole 'nother matter, in my book.

I am a Lap Dog (I've completed the event), and I'm here to tell you that it is VERY unlikely that a ticket (or three...) would get you disqualified from the event. The organizers are car guys that do LOTS of highway driving, and none of it's done at the limit. Well, limit of adhesion, maybe! I'm sure that rule was written just to put some legal nannies at bay.

Well, thats kinda what I gathered from various sources. I have no issues with speeding (like I said before, ask around!), my problem is with associating a charitable cause with it. I would love to participate in OLOA, but it looks like I should plan on doing so as a private entry.

Out of curiousity, how did you enjoy the experience, and what car did you drive?

Regards,
