Default Big Brake Upgrade Question

What happens when you do a big brake upgrade to a 89 944 turbo and use the 993 twin turbo calipers. I understand they do not have the correct offset (5mm). How does this affect the vehicle? Can I use a 5mm spacer to correct instead of spending a couple hundred $$$ on custom rotor hats? I am running 18" wheels, does that have any impact on the offset difference?

Thanks,

Dave

These rotors go without any spacers with Big Red/Black calipers:

The calipers from the 993TT will bolt directly to the spindles of the '89 turbo. Be sure to use the longer bolts from the 993TT or 928 GTS. The ones from your '89 will be a bit short.

You are correct that the 2-piece rotors from the 993TT will be the wrong offset. You can either use these with the correct offset alloy hats, or use the 911 3.6 Turbo rotors, which are 1-piece with broached holes, or use the 928 GTS, which are also 1-piece but without the cooling holes.

3.6 rotors and big blacks on the track car. Tom is correct on the longer bolt.

I have an 89 951. Are those tiny calipers the Turbo S or non Turbo S ones? If you change to Big Reds do you have a brake bias problem?

If your buying the Big Red kit from somewhere like Lindsey Racing, they include seperate hats. You just need to take the 993TT hats off of the rotors and replace with the provided ones.

Otherwise, if your getting them from ebay or other, you can just buy the hats from lindsey (made by Kokeln) seperate from the kit or from Kokeln.

For my 968 we went with the Big Red calipers and the 911 3.6 rotors. It was a direct replacement.

Solo, the above tiny calipers are from a stock 87. We have not encountered any problems with the stock bias valve left in, this is just a DE car but you can lock up the fronts if you get to agressive with them.
