Default No boost - just a woo...woo..noise!!

Took my car out first time this year and after a gentle warm up hit the boost -
but no boost only this woo...wooo......... noise like a fire engine.
Is this a turbo gone bad or could it be a hose come loose?

Car is box standard 220bhp 951.

Thanks

Steve

steveuk

Tell us more.

Is it making the noise in-line with the engine rpms or only when it tries to produce boost?

woo woo? Is it a wooo wooo like a fire engine wooo wooo or is it a wooosh wooosh like a fire extinguisher wooosh wooosh? If it is a wooosh wooosh like a fire extinguisher wooosh wooosh instead of a wooo wooo like a fire engine wooo wooo then its reallly probably like a shhhhh shhhhh wich could simply mean a leaking boost line - (check lines under the hood and line going to wastegate) also make certain wastegate is tight.

"Took my car out first time this year" - first time this year? Where are you? Alaska?

Mine made the exact same noise when the turbo had something go through it and trash the compressor side blades.

Pull the J-boot and look. Hope you have a strong stomach, 'cause I have a feeling you're not going to like what you find.

Hi Guys,

The noise only is apparent when boost is expected - other than that engine sounds ok.
Oh by the way I ain't in Alaska - SteveUK (work it out!!)

...I'm guessing a serious boost leak, but do you have a digital cam that could get the noise in a video?

Check the intercooler hose clamps.
If they are loose or off the hose puffing up and letting the air out could vibrate in such a fashion that it would make that noise.
