The Gt35r is a 600hp turbo. Unless you plan on making that much, there wouldn't be much of a point. A good compromise between the 30r and 35r would be the 3040r (technically it's a 3082r) which uses the 35r compressor and 30r turbine, so it would be a little less laggy. Though, these are both still 500+rwhp turbos so it just equates to unnecessary lag unless you are really aiming for that much power.

Markus951, do you happen to have a dyno sheet of your car? I'm really interested in seeing some dynos of GT series turbos on our cars.

I also run a GT turbo and couldn't be happier. It was a kit offered by Technodyne who developed in about 3 years ago. They were getting 400rwhp at 22psi if remember correctly on a stock 2.5 with maf.

To clarify the .82AR GT35R is a 600hp turbo, the .63AR is not. (more like a 400+whp turbo) Regardless, because the GT35R is the only GT-series turbo without the anti-surge housing, I think you would still be better off with the GT30R.

I would think with its anti-surge compressor housing, this wouldnt be an issue.

Actually, a 2871 or a 3071 should have less of a surge problem, since they have smaller compressors, correct?

If you're getting 1.2 bar at 3200rpm with the 3076, there isn't much reason to go smaller than a 3071. And that 3071 should have less backpressure and hence lower EGT's than a 2871.

Has anyone tried the ATP KKK housed GT turbos, or is everyone installing the standard turbine housing models?

dave951 has a kkk style gt30r - according to him it still requires"modification" but the down pipe bolts up nicely

The GT30R is offered with both anti-surge and standard housings.

First of all I have The GT3076 with KKK housing and antisurge holes from ATP. It is not direct bolt on turbo. You have to cut engine mount and to make a room for middle flange what connects turbo to engine mount but thats a different thread... My engine is off right now and I can make photos but. As my turbo has surgeholes does not mean that its not a problem. Its less danger to turbo itself but it still tells us that engine is not able to swallow all that what turbo can offer and that means we are not using maxium potensial of our compressors beacuse some of the air is pressed out throug surgeholes. If you ask me then it would be good for all BB turbos to have those holes because of the damn fast spool, but still it would be better without surge.

Also keep that in mind that 3076 compressors mid-range starts from 1.2 bar. I tested to run it with 0.9 or 1 bar boost, it was not that fast, and that compressor can hold easily 2.0 bar to redline in our cars....

I think GT30R is a great turbo for street and track application, but 500 hp is not going to happen without special cam, fuel management, decent dual port wg and so on. If i would have spend more time on the dyno, i quess 420-430 is top this turbo can do with stock cam, intercooler. My dyno plot shows that i had peak hp(402)@ 5313 rpm and peak torque(552nm)@5000 rpm but my car made more torque and hp through powerband compare to stock car, so i did not loose really anything by installing bigger turbo just more torque/hp in lower rpm / and a lot more torque and hp in midrange and hig-rpm.
dyno plot:

Theres actually two different schools of thought of how to solve this problem. One is the way Markus mentioned. The other is to add a adapter to the center section to give it additional height for clearance.
