Hi Sam, just the square-round hole adaptor that pauerman made me, no additional restrictor.

The GT30R w/KKK housing is a great turbo (I have one, which I finally finished installing). Not well suited for fast spool up, but great top end. Needless to say there are a couple of modifications needed to make this turbo actually fit in our cars (Oil feed line, Coolant Fittings, Turbo Mount, Crossover pipe [Needs to be extended/angled]) to name a few. If you’re up for a project, then definitely go for it. It’s not a trouble free install however, so don’t be mislead. I'll have some more feedback on the turbo once I finish the rest of the modifications I decided to do at the same time. If your interested in more detailed information shoot me a PM, I'd be glad to chat.
I think I and a lot of other people would like to know what was involved if you don't mind sharing. Though it may be worthy of a thread of its own.

Did you buy the turbo from ATP? Why did you pick the 30R over its variants(3071, 3076)? From all I have read and all the compressor maps I've looked at, the 3071R seems like a great choice for our cars, though a 2871R should be even faster spooling.

IVIA:
as far as i know vitesse can make custom chips and mafs to suit the turbo on any of our cars, i will most likely buy a stealth maf from him with his bigger injectors to suit. i want to keep the stock air box. and im pretty sure a piggyback is not needed because he gets his chips pretty spot on.

pikey7,
there are a fair few people on rennlist that have been running this hotside and have had no problems and all turbonetics turbochargers come with a no question asked 1 year garrantee.

rcatherton,
paurerman sold one of these t3t4r bb turbos to a guy in germany who i have been speaking to. he is very happy with with the spoolup and top end power. as i said before there are mods to the turbo or oil lines that need doing but it does fit.

The 3071r and 3076r ARE gt30r's. The Gt30r is just a "class" of turbo. The 71 and 76 just describe the compressor's exducer size in millimeters. The 3071r would be a good choice for the 300-400hp range on a 2.5l. It comes with a t04s housing normally, I believe. Though a t04e housing could be installed at the expense of a little hp and top-end (probably not too noticeable of a difference) and it would make for a much easier installation (only 3" inlet as opposed to t04s 4").

The 2871r would be a very fast spooling turbo for a 2.5l, although the compressor is a bit small for a 2.5l. Still, the 2871r is rated at ~380hp and I've seen several 240sx guys making 400+rwhp on 2.0l's with these. The only issue with one of these is due to the smaller compressor you will have to run more boost to make as much power.

Porschefile brings up a excellent point about the inlet size. The 4" inlet size makes for an interesting intake piping setup. I haven’t completely finished mine yet, having already removed the cooling shroud, and possible the A/C (if I can’t route the intake pipes without the room). From eyeballing it a 3" inlet seems like it would install without much trouble from the intake piping prospective (One less demon to battle the better). Never the less sometimes we just can’t resist the age old phrase; the bigger the better.

Edmans thread on his GT30R install covers a good amout of the installation snags.

I would think this would be the best compromise someone could make as at ~20psi it can make ~380rwhp, but would also offer GREAT spoolup characteristics.

The to4e housed GT3071R might be even better combination of everything.

An acquaintence of mine recently put a 2871r on his Sr20 240sx (2.0l dohc 16v i4) and it's still very responsive. Apparently he put down ~330rwhp at ~20psi. I will see if I can get a copy of the dyno sheet. Although it is a little small, it's still larger than a stock k26/6 so, there's not really any reason you couldn't run one of these.

Interesting. I wonder how the 2.5L 8v would fair in comparison to the 2.0L 16v... Maybe closer to 350rwhp at 20psi (as opposed to my original 380rwhp guess)...

What about running the GT35r turbo, and what is involved in getting one of these (the 30 or 35) to bolt-on to an otherwise stock 951? I have a friend who sells the GT turbos, and he is going to get a price for me once I tell him what specs to look up, but these are off the shelf turbos, so I don't know what is involved in making it work on a 951. I doubt I will be getting a turbo anytime soon, but I don't mind checking his prices for you guys if he can get what you all want. Plus, I can learn more about them and you guys can see what works well. I'm all for knowledge sharing!!

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...T30R+INSTALLED

But I would like to know what style is the best to buy. Gt with a (kkk,t04e,60-1) side?
most gts with a kkk only bolts to the down pipe

I think even with a .63ar, the GT35R might be a bit laggy. An e36 M3 (3.2L 24V I6, known to have exceptionally well flowing stock heads) makes full boost with the .63AR GT35R at ~2900 rpms, so I dont know where it would fall on a 2.5L 8v.

I dont know what exactly is necessary to run the Gt30R or the GT35R on a 951.

I am one of few who have GT30R (3076 with .63AR) installed to 951. Id say 2871 is a great turbo but it will surge as hell in our cars, even my 3076 is surging on full loads with 5th gear. The problem here is the stock cam and head not allowing air into clinder. Also 2871 is a very fast spooling turbo and our engines are a bit "lazy" to suck all that. I have driven my GT30R for some 10 000 km. Installation is not that hard and expencive if you know what you are doing.

Gt35 R is not going to fit under intake manny because of its compresor housing. If you are going to use custom intake manny then it fits. But then again it will be laggy in our cars. Totally ok if you are going for 3.0 liter but a bit overkill for 2.5 liter street car!

Results I got with Gt30R and stock engine but standalone fuel management and 680cc injectors was 402 hp/550nm of torque. If I remeber correctly (have to check log files) was 1.2bar@3200 1.8 bar@3500 RPM, thats with 4th gear and WOT. I could of get even more power, my top end was ritch for safety reasons.

This year I am installing bigger valves to the head, some mild port job, new FMIC and special cam with springs, balancing the bottom end and do genral rebuild. I am more then sure that I will get to 1 bar in 2700 RPM and full boost (with will be 1.8 bar) in 3200 rpm. And Hopefully I will be the first to reach 500 hp with GT30R.

People here are not belive into garret turbos, dont know why? But Ive seen VW 1.8T with same turbo making 552hp (ok, its a good flowing 16 valve head what should make more hp on high RPM's), but porsche has 2.5 liter instead of 1.8 and head can be modified .

Here in europe we have to experimente those things because we dont have race shops like vitesse, lindsey etc, so far I am happy with garrett..

IMHO one of the reason is because people don't better.
The other is that most people are happy with a simple bolt-on solution.

Looks like I have to build myself a temporary engine, and not ny monster engine, for this season. But it will however also be powered by a GT-turbo. Looking forward to try it out on a 951
