Do I think it has what it takes to compete? Surely not.
I disagree. A 3.0 Liter, dual over-head cam, 16-valve turbo engine will be more than competition (Get ST to tune it with VR chips over a weekend and it would surely dominate the competition). Throw on a "Big Red" front break kit with some Koni adjustables on all four corners and I think that would be more than adequate in the handling department. As far as looks go, that thing has already won regardless of the other entries.

VR software and tuning, Big reds, maybe coil overs in place of Koni's, good driver and no tech issues I would say top 5.

I'd love to see a 951 in the mix. IMO all those hormone dripping designs of the new cars that scream look at my scoop, honeycomb grill, etc. need to be shown that a sensual, gorgeous looking car not to mention it's 17 years old can still define a performance benckmark. There's a reason Porsche says, "There is no substitute." If you already have an in with Bidrawn (sp) you should be a shoe-in.

Hey guys, I hate to break it to you but despite Jim's tuning ability and John's products. They are not the end all, be all to 951's or compact/imports

MPD47: What makes you think the others would do any better? It seems that you are automatically writing off the 951 just because of it's age. Remember that this is a 4 cylinder shoot out. Most 4 cylinders are front wheel drive or all wheel drive. I think a well balanced, high powered, rear wheel drive car would do quite fine. What car do you think will do better? A Dodge Neon? Subaru WRX? Maybe, maybe not. No matter how many mods they had I sure wouldn't automatically say they would win hands down compared to Joe's car.

As long as it's a four cylinder shootout, then it should do just fine. His power levels are right up there with the best of the Subies and other turbo imports. So if they have to stay on 93 octane, then the other cars shouldn't be making more then 350-450 hp.

I believe MPD47 was referring to the praised heads, not the praised cars.

Indeed. Granted, I'm likely to be flamed for that too.

Even if it's a 4cyl. only shootout, isn't there a limitation on engine size? 3.0L is HUGE in the 4 cylinder category.

The other thing, I love how some are trying to play the "IF" game...."only IF you add this and do THAT and have this guy do that thing"....and so on. The original question was if the car, as is right now, will win a 4 cyl. shootout. Then as the posts progressed, all of a sudden the "yes, but you need to add this" replies started. In all fairness, does this car (in current config.) has what it takes to win a contest like this? I'm not talking about "be bale to hang" but to WIN.

i think you should try the SportCompact Car Magazine. It's simply, "The Ultimate Street Car" Period. Bench racers can construct all types of fantastic, exotic, perfect cars, but some people here actually have those cars. Go show the world.

FWIW, I already have Koni adjustables on all four corners, and a pretty good spring-torsion bar set up perfectly for the street. I was going to go coil over but when I took the car to Bondurant High Performance Driving School, the car was unbelievable and every instructor that drove it said he would leave it. If I did go, I would get a Vitesse chip so that's a sure thing. Otherwise I actually think I can do it. My car is already built like a brick ****house. It's not going to break down so it will definitely hold up to the challenge. My clutch is another issue. Even if I don't do anything to it, I've seen the hp numbers of the other cars. Launching will be my only problem and even then, I've gotten pretty good at it. Keep your eyes out for me. I have Pablo's number in my cell. I'll have to give him a call. He's just pretty busy but we have talked before. The only way we'll find out is if I find out as soon as it is being planned so I can get in. Then we can stop talking and wait for the shootout and see. I agree, easily top five.

Heres one, but it's not 4 cyl..

http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/uscc/0312scc_10tests/

One of our own tried out and out of 100 potential cars, he didn't make the reader vote for the top 10. 86944turbo.
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...timate+compact
It could have had something to do with the 800-1000hp Supra turbos or maybe because he only had a picture of his engine in the voting section. 1/2 the voters didn't know what kind of a car it was...

Show them you have the whole package, not just HP and I think you'll have a chance. Can you handle a smokey burnout and a gramma test?

I think the Car and Driver shootout is only for late model cars. I'm sure that has something to do with sponsors/advertisers.
