Project Pics and Updates LOTS OF PICS - LOW BANDWIDTH BEWARE
Alright guys - I know i'm gonna get flamed for an incomplete project and what might seem to be a half-assed effort but hey I finally decided where i wanna go with this. I did this stuff in about a day and a half in between getting back from Jamaica and comming back to Afghanistan. The body shop found out that the fenders have some bondo underneath after they dug into the paint, and I had another idea about the direction I wanted to take the car which includes replacing the fenders and quarters, so they went over the body in an aluminum paint to protect it for now.
The new idea is to take molds from the fenders with the flares installed, cut the flares on the front where they overlap the nose, bond those to the broadfoot nose (like the 996 GT3 RSR where the "added-on" flares are just from the top of the nose seam to the rockers and back). and have a shop do the front and rear fenders in carbon so they're one piece but still look "riveted" And find a way to get the rear valance remounted, replace the rear bumper with a slim one and install aluminum louvers i got from 928 international (welded in not riveted).
Alright, I installed the flares & rockers myself (the pics are before cutting out the body under the fenders to make clearance for the wheels), stripped out the interior, installed the driver side gt3 seat, found out the body shop lied about having installed the 968 mirrors.
Parts left in garage: Broadfoot racing nose with brake ducts, hoses and cooling plates, aluminum louvers for under hood cooling from 928 international, 968 mirrors, 968 door handles, 968 dash with no cracks and all trim pieces.
I tried to install the 968 handles but ran into a problem when I broke the part inside the handle where the tumbler housing gets locked into the handle by a small metal pin. Yeah the pin was just a hair too big and when I pushed, (pretty hard and had the handle pinned down on my granite kitchen counter tops) I broke that "leg" I guess you would call it.
Anyways I'll have more pics in May when I go home to coordinate the fenders, new door panels (getting molds made currently to have the door panels made and displayed in raw carbon fiber).
So what do you guys think so far?

mold it all smoothly.
lose the rivet holes, and rivets.
get rid of the side markers.
add a euro bumper in the rear because your bumper end caps are clearly been warped from a hit.
make all of your rear lights, except the reverse light, red.
Add a 968 TRS rear wing.

I was planning on going with the gt-racing euro bumper, shaving the side markers is what the body shops gonna do, but how do you red out the tail lights? I'm getting new units to replace the old ones, so what do you suggest? I saw the thing for the group buy on the 968 TRS wing, are they available from Porsche (i'd have to get the 968 hatch to have it work i'm sure)?
Thanks for the advice, I'm looking to stay close to something that looks like Porsche would have produced, thus the spendy trick OEM stuff such as the GT3 seats. ANYTIME you come up with a thought that might help make this project a bit more authentic looking, let me know!

I have heard that the best way to "red out" the yellow light is to buy a spray can of testers red model paint. Someone is bound to chime in on that.
American International Racing makes a replica wing. I don't "think" (meaning don't quote me) that Porsche made very many TRS wings. They only built 4 TRS cars. You can do the TRS wing, but you need to order the accompanying trim pieces. It will then work on the 951 hatch.

A couple of things:
Kind of looks Robocop right now. I'm not sure that's a bad thing either.
Delete the rain guards if you can. Anyway to smooth them to the roof and door channels? Would make the car much more modern especially in silver.
Delete the rivet/bolt holes in the fender extensions but leave the seams.
Pull the front fender extensions around the front into a splitter some way.
Silver/gray carpet inside.
968 or Lemans tail. TRS looks a little pimp for my tastes.
Yellow calipers would look much better Titanium colored (but that's the plans for mine)
930S steering wheel & a more stealth MOMO **** (combat's are nice) in black leather

First off the steering wheel is 2 years old....and i know...no one need say anymore!!!!! Just kidding, I think its kinda funny too. But i agree on the 968 wheel and thinking about an all black leather ****.
Yellow calipers were rebuilt to see what PCCB's would look like (as far as color goes) which I'm really thinking about doing after the body and suspension get addressed.
I totally agree on the rain gaurds, does anyone know how difficult this is to do? I love clean lines, and deleting unwanted ones. But how can Robocop be a good thing? haha thanks for the laugh it was needed!

The red paint is Testors Transparent Candy Apple Red #1605. Most any hobby store that sells model cars & planes will have it.
I used it on my front side markers, haven't done the tailights yet but they're on the list. It only took a couple of very thin layers to cover up the orange and I'm pleasantly surprised how good it looks, especially for $3.50 and some tape.

Do I like the flares? Yes... do I like them covering the side markers like they were just slapped on with zero fore though? most certainly no. The thing I despise about alot of Broadfoot's stuff is it doesnt look though out, just kind of pieced together. It also looks like you may have the wrong offset and tire size on those rears? Car has lots of potential, i'll be interested to see how it pans out. Get some coil-overs though and lower that rear.

As said, a lot of potential here!
Right now the car looks too much as a stock car with added fender flares.
The most important thing to start with is to lower the car a lot. Those fenders need wheels with very low ET and lot's of camber to bring out the right look.
After that a big rear wing and a front splitter.
The broadfoot fenders are not easy to get the right looks from, but if you suceed they look very mean.
My suggestions should take you closer to this look which speaks for itself

Another thing I strongly suggest, cut the body line through the flares for the bumper and cut the flares rather than the splitter, keeps things looknig alot cleaner. If I was doing them I'd slice the flare off where the bumper starts more like the 993 GT2.

MPD47 - Are you ever going to make a kit that you could sell me for the lights? I'm looking at deleting my headlights and going with a set up like yours...PM me if you're interested in selling something. I said something about the bumper vs. flares in my first post, but attached is a pic of the style i will mimic of the front bumper as far as cutting the front flares and fiberglassing them to the front bumper. And the seams on the fenders seen should be what is seen after I get my fenders and quarter panels mold's done and get them done in carbon. But all in good time. Also I didn't have time to attach the Broadfoot bumper i have - so I attached the one broadfoot has on their site as mine is identical including brake ducts - although I think I might do something different with the ducts like enlarge them a touch and fiberglass in something to the backside to yield a more finished, professional look. I'm not happy with what I got from broadfoot, and if I can't make it look good I'm going to go for the Kokeln GTR bumper, and make it look like the one on the RSR...Also i'm going to fill in the reflectors in the rear and as I said in an earlier post find a way to remount the rear valance.
Duke - I'm currently looking for a suspension - thinking Bilstien Escort Cup Kit anyone like/dislike this setup? And wheels will come as soon as the body and suspension are done - I'm looking at 18x13 or 18x13.5 HRE 542Rs in the rear and 18x9.5 in the front. Maybe a little thinner up front as all those wheels do is steer might go as small as an 8.5 in width.
As far as wings go I was thinking something large, following the broadfoot example as it looks mean as hell - use the Lindsey Racing 70" Straight Wing on 12" uprights through lexan. Any thoughts? As I said before due to where I am and coordinating projects from this far away is almost impossible - so this will be a bit of a long process, but I'd like to get as many opinions as possible on what i did along with the planned mods. And I greatly appreciate all that you guys have posted. You guys are like my semi-reality check on what would actually look the best! Thanks guys!!

I must not have been listening carefully enough, heh, sorry bout that. As for headlights, I wont sell you stuff, but I'd be more than happy to help walk you through it. Besides I spend some time in CO, I might be able to just take a small weekend trip down to Houston one weekend and help you put it together. As for wheel selection... hope you arent planning on any real driving other than to shows. HRE's are known to bend/break and have the finish flake off. I wouldnt recommend them to my worst enemy.

Yeah i guess I should have included the pics in the first post as far as the fenders go, my description wasn't as clear as it could have been...but I'm glad you came up with the same thing I wanted to do...that means its probably a good idea.
As far as walking me through doing the lights that would be great - but I'd need a full supply list of what to get and all and remember right now I'm in Afghanistan...so it'd be one of those I'll get everything on the list and put it together in a few months...Maybe we could plan something out after I get the bumper thing worked out hopefully by May or so...but I'd be more than happy to buy you a few beers and throw a couple of steaks on the grill if you ever did show up in Houston.
