I had the same thing happen to me. The threaded part is easy to get out IF you remove the radiator. Other wise it is a PITA to get to. I took the threaded part out with just a small flat blade screwdriver. As a side note, I too wondered why Porsche would use such a cheap plastic fitting. I thought I would out-engineer the Krauts by using a brass one with brass metric adapter. But I forgot my physics lesson on expansion/heat coefficients and a few days later the radiator tank developed a crack going vertically down from the hole for the hose connection. Seems the brass expands differently than the plastic and hello cracked radiator. Order a couple to have for spares. It's a pisser when you are sidelined for a $3 part.

You said it. I now go to school in the back of a pickup truck. Talk about a fall from grace

You know, i was thinking of taking off that plasic piece and have a machine shop make an exact replica of it, but i dont know what material would it have to be, i don't think stainless would be a good option(?)

It maybe more expensive, but sure heck eliminates the possibility of it breaking again.

I think plastic is actually the best option, short of having the little barb wleded to the radiator permanently. Why didn't they just do that at the factory?

Most metals expand and contract at different rates, which, as mentioned above, could cause problems, and steel will galvanize to theradiator over time, plastic is proably the best option.

Not welded into the radiator, just a fitting, made from metal.

Griffith's aluminum radiators have this plastic fitting replaced with metal, and so does HMR

I have not opened my group buy radiator. Did it come with this fitting and the blue plastic drain plug?

Tom: The pictures in the group buy shows that fitting being brass (?), and i didn't see the drain plug.

And no, i didn't catch the group buy.
