951S vs 2003 996
I just wanted to state here that I sold my Silver Rose 951S and bought a 2003 996 w/ 16k miles on it.
For those of you thinking of doing this also think it through very carefully. The 996 is a beautifull car no doubt but the seat of the pants performance is not the big jump you would expect for for 15 yr difference between the 2 cars. In fact I think my Silver Rose was actually quicker!! I know for certain that on the highway at 50-60mph I would not mess with a 951S because I would lose every time. The 996 doesn't pull nearly as strong as the Turbo on that little 4 banger!! I did have some mods on the 951(chip, K&N cone filter).
The 996 is MUCH smoother and you don't "feel" the speed nearly as much but I'm not sure thats a good thing? I like to "feel" as though I'm going fast, isn't that what a sports car is all about?
I am not saying that I do not like the 996, not at all. I'm simply saying that for a 1988 model, the 951S is quite a formidable opponent and in some ways may be better in my opinion. Just my .02 from an owner who has had them both.

PLEASE, post that in as many places as possible
Then maybe our cars will at least sell for what same year 911 turbo's are selling for.

Posted by:Pieball IMO, unless your "S" is heavily modded, not even close! Have you had each at your/their limits? Get back to us when you do...
996's are fast cars. A chipped 951s is somewhat close to the performance of the 996. That's where the similarities end because a moderately tuned 951 will flat out abuse a 996 in strait line performance. Most 951's I have seen on the road/track are in disrepair. It's very easy to beat a car in this condition. Time and neglect have taken there toll. Most people that race these 951 can claim a victory easy. The truth is a well maintained 951s is very fast. Get a hold of someone with this type of car and then chime back.

Sell my Silver Rose? Never!
Ok, but ask me the same question while I'm doing the clutch job this winter and the answer might be different....

Does anyone have a dyno sheet from the 997 carrera S??
THOSE are pretty quick. More than 355 crank would indicate - I am thinking probably a crazy flat powerband about the width of the paper.

AlexL. You sold that car, are you nuts! And you are in NJ too, ugh!! Anyway, best wishes with the new toy. I hope it brings you much pleasure neighbor.
Pieball: "IMO, unless your "S" is heavily modded, not even close! Have you had each at your/their limits?" - No offense, but I question that coment about not even close? I have 2 friends with "lightly" modded 951s and they can beat a good amount of cars, among them p-cars. And they aren't running crazy boost like ST either. Don't ever underestimate the power of the the darkside, as Lart would say - the 951! Our cars our badass, I'm sorry but I'm biased and love it baby! Let me get a hold of a 996, and I'll give that thing a beating with the boost turned way down, thanks to the Vitesse Stage 5 turbo & Wasted Spark. I'll have ST in the car with me too for fun, ha!

Bone stock:
951S 250hp 3000lbs = pwr/weight 12lbs
03 996 320hp 2966(listed) = 9.3lbs
Modded = $300 chips 951S. 996 - $300 .....Cold air intake???
Power to weight:
951 - 285hp 3000lbs = 10.52
996 - 325hp 2966 = 9.12
