Default MLS Head Gasket Poll

I have two choices. One is an MLS gasket with ARP studs.

The other is a stock gasket with ARP studs.

I do NOT have a widefire gasket as a choice

Please click the poll for what happened to you

MLS, ARP studs, surfaced block and head, small oil leak until engine (water and oil) are warm. I go through about 1/4 quart of oil every 1-2 fill ups

We used stock widefire headgasket with Raceware studs, studs stretched, gasket leaked. Switched to OEM studs and Jon Milledge's Cometic metal gasket, and have had no problems running 18psi in race environment.

Had MLS gasket with ARP studs. First two installs leaked coolant. Repeated cleaning of the surface and redecking of the head solved the problem.

Thats unacceptible for a daily driven car. Mine will have been totally redone. No oil drips, no leaky seals, and totally cleaned underside. New paint.

I will not have spent this much time, effort and money and have a leaking car.

Did John M. change the design of the Cometic?

Im just afraid to take the head off again

It drips right on the exhaust so it doesn't leave any thing under the car, i do get a little oil film on the rear of the car

I just do not have the time or the will to really risk having to do the head AGAIN

I understand the apprehension and mean no ill will. I'm just not going to stand for an oil where its not supposed to be. I've powdercoated the Cross member for chrissakes.

I can't really vote since I have a widefire (going on 5 years now, ~20k mi.) with stock head studs that gives no leaks up to 27psi. I even hit well over 30psi a few times on accident. I am sure with the proper AFR a stock head gasket would work just as well as any other.

Thanks for that comment. I agree. The issue as I stated was that I have no WF to use for my 928 that I am aware of. So stock or MLS is my option.

I agree that the Wide fire or even the standard gasket is more forgiving and will do the job just fine so long as you are properly tuned.

In my case the Cometic MLS is the only choice for my bore, knock on wood no problems and the kicker is, my head was already was o-ringed, which you are not suppose to use o-rings with the MLS, I took a chance, so far so good.

I will be "Tuning" so I may need some "headroom" on the gasket. The head will be surfaced. The block will not be, though it will be very clean. With ARP studs.
