I have purchased a rebuilt motor from Don Istook.
Don is expected to complete the motor in the next 3-4 weeks or sooner. cost plus shipping is $4590

My concerns are cylinder prep.What should I make sure is done? Have them honed or scuffed by hand?
Don say's cylinders look fine but I don't know exactly what he is going to do?
I am going to also ask for new head studs? And have all the valve guides replaced?

Vatted and cleaned engine block...all galleys cleaned
Lightened, crossdrilled crankshaft (std crankshaft)
matched connecting rods
ceramic coated pistons
crank/rods/pistons/crank pulley balanced
new rod/main/countershaft bearings
new rings
new rod nuts
all new gaskets and seals
new wide fire ring head gasket
complete valve job
lifters cleaned and bleed
cam housing vatted and cleaned
new timing/aux belts
new cam bolt
new timing and aux rollers
rebuilt water pump
new thermostat
all belt covers included
p/s pump bracket included
oil breather system included
new head nuts

Any comments suggestions?

Istook is in the same category with very few others such as Milledge. Just give him the stuff and pay the bill. You won't be disappointed. BTW...that's a very fair price IMHO. 1K less than Broadfoot does it. This is one of those guys where you might just want to nod your head up and down and say thanks. I wish he lived closer to me.

can't think of anyone I'd rather work on my car - definately knows the 944 up and down, and is a great guy to work with - I highly recommend him

Like everyone else said. You have nothing to worry about. If he says it, it's true. Sleep well knowing the work is done right and don;t ask y ourself another question about it.
