Default ?Motor Oil?

I bought a 951 with about 110,000 miles on it. The guy has kept up the maintence on the car well. I can see no leaks on the gaskests any where!
The temp here in CT varies from -10F to 80F!

What kind of oil should I use?

-I am going to use a Porche filter, Swepco 201 in the tranny, and a new Fuel filter.

Thanks

i know its not near as cold, but i use Valvoline 15w-50 full synthetic. i dont know much about oils, but i did my own little research on this and it does well for the "winters" (or so we like to call them down here in texas) down here. hope i helped, but if not, i hope you find a decent weight for your needs!

If you drive it hard in the summer i would go for 20w50 especially if you track it.
for all year you could probably go to a 5w40.

Get premium synthetic oils
Amsoil
Motul
are probably the best 2 out there,

Find out if the previous owner used dino oil or synthetic. If he used dino and you switch to synthetic, you stand a chance of seals leaking, it's possible - if the car was on synthetic, leave it on syntheic.

Default Amsoil

The best oil out there is Amsoil Series 2000 20W50 Racing oil. The oil is red like transmission fluid and smells like detergent, it's 100% synthetic, the first pure synthetic oil ever made back in March of 1972. Amsoil pioneered the synthetic oil industry and if you do research you'll see that in all independent laboratory tests, no other oil has ever beaten it. So forget about Mobil 1, Redline, Royal Purple, they all second place to the best. Don't believe all the myths you hear, see for yourself, I have it right now in 5 cars in the family, no leaks, does not burn, and you can even go 25,000 miles without changing it, they also make oil and air filters, fuel additives and grease. Check it out, Google it, and no, I am not a dealer, just an educated consumer who has been using this fantastic oil for over 10 years in several cars...

I bought 8 quarts of 5W-40 Amsoil (European Car oil). I am planning on using a "Porsche" Oil filter!
He used to have the oil changed at a Valvoline shop. I have the reciept is says Synthetic oil but does not say what kind.

Should I flush the motor prior to using the the Amsoil "5W-40" oil?

Default Amsoil 20W50

The European Amsoil 5-40 is too thin, you need 20W50, if not the Series 2000 then the regular Amosoil 20W50 (there are two). Amsoil also sells a motor flush which they recommend using before adding Amsoil to your car. You put it in with the old oil, preferably when it is low on the dipstick and let the engine idle at 1,500-2,000 rpm for 10-15 minutes then drain (really good) the oil and add Amsoil! I would recommend an Amsoil oil filter, they recommend changing it every 12,500 miles and the oil at 25K. Their oil filter is designed to filter over 99% of dirt and deposits unlike regular oil filters which are not as efficient...

Ha sure flush it, I use Mobile 1 to flush out my pan,

You will not regret changing to Amsoil, bar none the best.

I am a dealer, I just didnt want to put out a sales pitch.

You can become a "prefered customer" and order directly from Amsoil thru their internet site.

Let me know if you are interested. I can set it up for you.
You can get it a a better price and drop shipped to your door.

I have seen the series 2000 run at 270 deg for 45 minutes ( 100 degF and 85% humidity ambient temperature) with out so much as a hint of pressure drop. treally tuff stuff. M1 didnt last 20 minutes in a similar car under the same conditions.

Default Good deal

That's great, try it out and see how it goes, when you change your oil next time, give the Series 2000 a try, it's a few $$ more, but well worth it!!
