Default Big assed turbo

So, I'm the guy that bought Erik's (emwporsche) '86 951 that had a Vitesse stage 3 that was about to be ran on it, and then ran into big engine troubles. I've been a big 928 guy, but of course always liked the "little brother" to the 928, the 944, and never really thought I'd own a 951, but I should have thought harder

ANYWAY, it was missing a turbo (opted for the car without the Vitesse stuff) and needs head work and there is some scoring on one of the cylinder walls, although not really that bad...

So heres the new turbo... Kiss that AFM goodbye!!!

Compared to a stock 300zx turbo...

Those links work about as well as that turbo will on any engine with less than about 5 liters of displacement. . .

You mean....if it is too ineffective on his engine, then he will have lots of lag...small and ineffective versus big and very effective...not much lag difference. But of course...lag's gonna be a bitch if it's too big and ineffective to boot...

The external size is not the only way to judge a turbo!! Big is not always better, but then again everyone knows this already

Barry:

You opted for not having the Vitesse Racing Stage 3? Trust me, you're going to regret it. Ask me how I know, for I learned the hard way. I've had both a Lindsey Super 75 w/T4 hotside, and now we just installed a custom VR Stage 5 turbo too - "hard data" to follow soon. Speaking from personal experience, you cannot touch John's stuff, period!!

Anyway good luck with the car, I wish you all the best.

I don’t know if you can call the 951 the little brother, 951’s are nothing little when it comes to performance. But perhaps if you refer to weight than yes the 928 is the big FAT brother of the 951.

Ha, no, little brother as the engine was taken from half of the 928, and its a smaller car, hence the little. We all know what kind of power these cars are capable of, and that not very little
Well, the links, oh well... You can see the turbo in my avatar. Its a T4 P trim (although sounds more like an O trim), with a .70 A/R, and .60 hotside. I am very aware that an inefficient turbo set up CAN result in a tons of lag, however, it came from an E30 M3 that developed boost quickly, and thats a smaller displacement motor.
Only time will tell how it works out on the 951, but although it will never spool as fast as I would ultimately like (off idle if I had my way ), I will have it pushing some nice hard boost.

Hey Barry
Please dont take this the wrong way but I think you should have bought the stage 3 while you were at it
If you ask aroiund this board, there will be few who tell you there is a better set up available ..PERIOD
You may choose to get a stage 2 from John instead? Which is by all means GREAT as well !
My 2 cents
Whatever you decide I wish you the best of luck :-)
Regards
Ed

That's the same turbo that I have on my Suzuki GSX-R... full boost at 4800 rpm on a 1342 cc engine...should spool well. Mine's a DBB though...
