porsche 924/944 gtr/gtp

A bit OT, but anyone got any tech info about the engine used in the 944 GTP?

I believe that the Engine was slightly different than that of the "standard" Porsche 944. It's a 16-Valve variation of the 944 Engine. Like the later introduced Porsche 944 S(2). This Engine is quite special, because it is the only Porsche inline 4-Cylinder 16-valve turbo Engine ever made. Even the later indroduced Porsche 968 RS (turbo) was an 8-valve Engine.

Yea, that pic is of a 16 valve, I had never heard that before. But most of them were still 8 valve.

Default Match Engine with Car

Awhile ago when I got the picture in my avatar, the page had several photos of the car, interior, engine shot, rear shot and the front passenger 1/4 view. The engine shot was the one below (gold head 16 valve), and yes it is the 39 car. Special; I think this was the motor you were talking about?
The last recorded sale of the GTR was the electrodyne one at $140,000.

And just in case anyone reading this thread thinks to themselves - "there, see a professionally built car running Webers - they make more power the old school way"

No, they do not - not even close. I will put John's tuneable Motronic setup on that car and pick up 25 HP on the dyno in 1 hour.
And if I couldn't do it at sea level, you can bet your *** I could do it at 5000 FT.

The 16valve- turbo engine is supposedly in the 1980 GTP car, NOT GTR .. Only 1 GTP was ever made , and that is the BOSS car (ltreid`s avatar)
The 944/924 GTR where made to spesifications requested by the buyer ..

Does anyone have any shots from Rennsport with the body on? The GTP and GTR Turbo were very different cars.

In the first page, that turbo info has to be wrong. There's no way a K26 variant is making 600-700hp. I'd believe a K29 or other, larger KKK compressor, but not a K26.

Here is a pic I just ran across of the Electrodyne GTR sitting in Electrodyne's showroom. If anyone has Excellence Mag #118 April 2003 I believe it has an article on the IMSA 944 GTR. Here are a couple 944GTP shots from LeMans 1981 as well.
