The fenders on the 89 951 are already rolled from the factory.
I run 285 30 18's with plenty of room.
I'll be upgrading to 295's when I need new tires.
On the front I'm running 255 35 18's and could go with 265's with alittle more camber.

Rob,

I think its a crap shoot because the sizes between the different brands will screw you up too. I have used the same size but different brands and they where different fitments. Try to go to a place where you might know someone and try 285/295's.

Evil is right, the width vary drastically by manufacturer. Hoosier for example tends to be VERY wide, while Michelin tends to be very narrow, and others fall inbetween. If you were closer I would be happy to mount some up and give it a shot.

Thanks for the help guys. I need to find out the exact off-set sizes. As I said in the beginning, I'm going to stick with the Bridgestone S03s for now. Overall I like them. So if that is the type I'm gonna use, it sounds like everyone is saying I should be able to easily fit 285s in the rear? That's what I am reading here.

tconn: I like the set-up you have, that's sounds good to me with the rear being 285s 30 18's & the front being 255s 35 18's. How does the car handle, still neutral? Dont you think the 295s will rub at all?

evilt944T: Good idea pal. If I knew someone local that knew what the hell they were doing I would. But so far, I dont trust any of these idiots near me. Then again I havent done alot of research so far. Given that my car puts down some decent power, do you think the combination I said above to tconn would allow me to get the most traction without slicks for the street; and without rubbing? How do you think the handling will be?

MPD47: Thanks for the link, it did help. I'll eventually contact Winslow.

My concern is being able to get the widest tires I can get on the rims I have without doing any mods. Based upon what everyones said, it sounds like to me that I should be able to easily fit in the rear 285s 30 18's and the front with 255s 35 18's - with Bridgestone S03s. This is what I will lean toward in the future, comments everone?

Thanks in advanace.

I can get you the information you need for the S-03 if you would like to measure. Give me a few minutes to bust out the handbooks and I will get you the treadwidth, sidewall width, etc.

I tried 285's on the rear with 18x9.5 wheels and 18mm offsets. Stock is 23mm(86). Even with the fender lip rolled it rubs on the drivers side rear a little. If your offsets are stock they should work. In my case I believe that if I throw in 1.5 negative camber they will work. The 285's are in my shed right now. I already adjusted the negative camber in the rear. I'm just waiting for spring to roll around for a second attempt. Right now I'm running 265 35's in the rear and 235 30's up front.

Thanks Matt. And I'm in no rush, so whenever you get a chance is fine. I am thinking about the future. I don't have the car with me too, so I can't meausre anything right now. ST has my car.

But thank you and everyone else for your input. I just don't want to make a mistake and have the tires rub at all. Yet, I want the best combination, the widest I can get, and best handling. I guess I am asking for the best of all worlds? LOL One can dream...

jimbo1111: Thanks for the info pal. I have an 1989 model, so I dont know the offsets. You would know better than me. And when I come back up there, you and I will have to meet with ST, ok?

evil944T: Dont worry about the OT. Just help me here with this set-up combination - given my tires/rims and application!

Heres an idea, Don't drive so fast.....55 saves lives lol

It going to be very hard to keep that kind of power under control. 275's 285's etc, they are so close in size. I wonder if you can go to a DOT rain tire like a yokohama.

Dave, no real work on the 951 but I do need to see your project. Jennifer is working this weekend, shoot me a PM with the address and I will swing by.

Let me know what I need to bring you and I will bring it over. Did you ever get a welder?
