Anyone trying something new out?
 
I just thought I'd open a thread to get people sharing ideas.

Anyone experimenting with turbo's?

What size motor and what are your goals?

I think 90% of the things under my hood will be "something new" or at least something uncommon...
  • Chris White 104mm MID sleeved 2.7L block
  • Powerhaus-spec K27/8 7200 trim turbo
  • stock head (boring!)
  • late NA cam
  • Megasquirt engine management
  • COP ignition (see above)
  • EMS controlled boost
  • EMS controlled 'fuel proportional' water injection
  • WBO2 and EGT inputs to EMS
  • Knock, boost, EGT, and AFR based timing retard

There's probably a few other things that aren't too common in there too. I'm hoping but not expecting to get everything right the first time. I'd like to be close.

I'll be sharing as many details with my project as I can type. Not trying to hide anything or avoid any constructive (or destructive) criticism. I can hold my own on most engine tech discussions, and will learn from the ones that I can't.

Where are you at right now? Did you get the motor together?

MegaSquirt (doing fuel, spark, boost control, ill give traction control a try as well). A few misc things, crank scraper, 50 thou milled off my cylinder head, SuperMounts and steel monoball control arm bushings on a street car, custom wiring harness that im making myself.

Chris is supposed to get his end done (the assembled short block) before the end of this month. I have some groundwork on the EMS done (Click here), but still need to do some testing/experimentation before it will be operational. I expect to get the "test engine" fired up tonight...

I been trying for a while to fit CAYENNE front calipers to my car. That would be a huge improvement over the originals.

Oh yeah, I'm trying out an I-J crank scraper too. Also ordered this oil pan baffle and pickup tube collar off ebay...

I'll have my welding buddies hook me up with those. The rest of the stuff has pretty much been done by the POs. I'm going to fit a set of Corbeau A4s with the harnesses attaching to the existing Autopower roll bar.

Also going to replace the clutch, but not looking to pave any new ground there.

Hows that going? How big are they compared too stock or TT brakes?

I assume this is at me and about the Briggs and Squirton engine? Its for my FSAE car.

They are huges!...........Just think about it, They are made to stop with tipical Porsche power, a 2.5 ton vheicle. Next time you see a CAYENNE, look at the front wheels, imagine those calipers on your 951.

A caveat first. I don't race my car. That said why do you feel that the brakes on these cars (mine is pre-ABS) need any upgrading? My car has the most controlable, predictable and powerful braking that I've ever experienced. They are stock. Just yesterday, I had one of those "Dammit, turned yellow" moments, and the car just yanked at the road. Anyway, I don't get it. BTW aren't Cayenne wheels like 19's or 20's?

New stuff...I'm attempting to remember girls names so I don't have to sneak out in the middle of the night anymore.
On topic...I'm buying and installing 24 way adjustable Leda coil overs from Chris White.
Then it's straight to the engine project. I've decided that I want to use the 2.5 liter 8 valve T engine and take it to the most extreme levels of performance possible. I was thinking 3.0 litre, or 2.8, but as tech gets better and better, I think there is a lot left to find in the stock based motor .

My car is a 86. The biggest problem a have is finding the right rotors for this application. They have to be custom made and they are expensive. The caliper it self is a little heavier the the gt3, but they are also chipper by alot.
