Dipstick Tube to intake mounting bolt...
Cross post...
Clarks Garage says "13. Install the dipstick tube to intake manifold mounting bolt"
How the **** do you get the 6mm bolt attaching the dipstick tube to the intake manifold in?
I ran a search & saw all the suggestions about slotting the hole in the bracket out, but I'm away from home with a minimum of tools.
Anyone have any special tricks? My hands are way to big & I keep on dropping the bolt or washer...
TIA

If you are right handed, use youre left hand to get the bolt in the threads (make sure the dipstick itself is not in the tube to get more room).
To tighten it, use a 1/4" rachet with some extentions and a swivel........works like a charm everytime

I use a 14 inch 1/4 extension with a swivel and 10mm socket.
Wrap electrical tape around the swivel to hold it straight - yet still maintain the swivel feature.
Also - wrap electrical tape around the open end of the socket - just enough to hold the bolt from falling out until it is started.

Without the slot, it really depends on whether you remember to connect the dipstick tube before you bolt down the intake manifold. I don' t know about everyone else but in the 4-5 times I've had the intake manifold off, I never remember that bolt until everything else has been buttoned down nicely. I'm a small guy and I can get that bolt secured with some effort but slotting the dipstick holder makes it a no-brainer and less than 30 second affair.

I just remove and install the intake manifold with the dipstick tube still attached. Works ilke a charm.
I leave the fuel rail on the intake too for that matter. I've tinkered so much under there, everything comes apart like a Leggo motor.

I've always removed the dip stick tube first. No problems getting it off. I may be pulling my intake off this weekend to trace down low vacuum so I'll pay attention to exactly what I use to get the bolt out. I don't recall it ever being a problem so maybe I'm doing something different.

I bought one of those craftsmen box end wrenches that have the ratchet style ends on them. The bolt head will not push all the way through the box end of the wrench so I put the bolt head into the box end like normal and stuck a piece of tape over the backside of the wrench such that the sticky side was holding the bolt in place. From there it was simply line up the bolt to the hole, keep constant pressure from the wrench to the bolt and ratchet away.
