Defastest- I listed all the specs in my first reply to this thread- the 951 w/stock RD @ stock 6400rpm redline hits 167mph- same car w/S2 5th hits ~180, &, w/NA 5th hits ~193...

Konstantin- ok... that sounds about right... could do the math to get perfect, but, I'm sure it's definately w/in the realm of possibilty w/S2 5th... that's AWESOME! That is EXACTLY the 5th gear I want for my car, although, I still wouldn;t get over 162mph (259kph) right now- but, w/the HP & TQ I'll eventually be making, I think I could use it- again, at stock RD, or, 180mph (288kph)... Even still, wont make full use of it much around here....! That's a good top gear for the 951 w/the rest of the gears being stock... the NA is too big of a jump from stock 4th, really... only useable as an overdrive... Would actually HURT most top speeds b/c most cars would shift from 4th just below redline, say, 130mph (208kph), &, then, drop so low into that tall 5th, that they'd never be able to build the HP neccessary to increase their speed.... of course, w/a motor like your's... OR Defastest's.... Different story....! That's cool man- you're the first I've heard of to have an S2 5th in 951... wild that it was factory... Some 951s actually got shorter FD- instead of 3.38, they got 3.65.... This really shortened things- lowered 1/4 mile from 14.2 to 13.9 in Turbo S- 0- 60 (96kph) remained the same 5.5 seconds though, b/c shift into 3rd came BEFORE 60mph (96kph) & cost a couple tenths of a second... Then, 0-120 (192kph) was ~22.0 seconds, which, probably was not faster b/c of the shift into 5th BEFORE 120mph (192kph).... Still, C&D did their Turbo S test w/one (is where I'm getting these #'s) & it said the car was much faster around town, overall... of course, this makes perfect sense... certain speeds might not be better, but, the car is out in front, for sure... obviously, b/c, it's out infront by ~3 car lengths by the 1/4 mile... Still, w/such short top gear, I would not want it for my car- not for the street anyway...

Am I right in thinking the final drive is different in the turbo box from the S2 box, so while the S2 has a taller 5th on the standard cars the turbo does more mph/1000rpm in 5th,

Are these numbers ok? This is the max you can get with the right gear box strong springs and a good head.

What rev limit was that? and in fact how much BHP would you need to hit 214? I would guess you would need around 650 or 800 if you wanted to hit it quickly.

I know that I'm coming to the party late, but how can I get my hands on the video? Seems like it's not available at the site on the first post.

Thanks in advance.

6500 rpm or 7000 rpm with 600 HP
I have teh gears here but I do not wnat to go to 1,6bar boost just to hit the 214 mph.
1.6 maybe be ok for accelaration on a cold day but not for a long time and not with this Intercooler

5th Gear: 0.83 (stock '86 turbo, European car as source)
Engine rpm: 6800

320 km/h or 199mph. However I'm sure that due to centrifical forces the tire diameter must increase a few millimeters thus pushing you over the 200mph.

Now the trick would be to generate enough hp at 6800 rpm to overcome wind... what would that take??? 450hp?
Just with a quick calculation based on 951 aero info and velocity, it takes 340hp to overcome wind resistance at 200mph, and 415 to overcome resistance at 215.

It takes a little more formula reworking and number crunching to factor in gearing, and power curves.

So a 951 dynoed to 317hp should be able to tip the needle to just over 300 km/h then..?

The power has to be in the correct spot on the rpm range as well.

Tony- yes, this is true, but, the S2 5th w/the 951 FD would give you ~180 at redline in 5th gear w/stock RD... however, bringing up top speeds by increasing the RD is a pretty futile effort b/c it takes more RD increase than one would normally get by changing tires, to get a noticeable speed increase... plus, it's that much harder to turn the tires (gear or taller tire) to GET to the speed at given RPM, etc....

As for 340HP to get to 300kph- I'd believe this for RWHP, but, that's about 186mph(?)- I seriously doubt you'd get to that w/340HP @ crank, but, I'd sure like to find out...
