Just to put in discussion

My 89 952 had a pareto rebuild recently (4'500 km ago). I only use Mobil 1 5W-50 - the only oil disappiring is the one I take off the oil stick to measure the oil level - no consumption at all!

That is a lot of oil in terms of talking about oils that offer almost ZERO oil consumption.

Please show the tests you have seen.

If yo ucomare out prices of Mobile 1 and Amsoil, Amsoils is cheaper due to the increased time in intervals. There company also states if you use an Amsoil filter, you can go even longer without changes.

My mech runs Amsoil now in all his and customers race cars. He has done 1,000's of break down and rebuilds over his 20+ years working on Porsches race motors and stated that only Amsoil has shown practictally no wear. Although Mobil 1 he said is a close 2nd.

So uhm, gas milage CAN vary by that much just based off of the engine oil used?
Because that alone, if true, would clearly justify any reasonable additional expense... especially over 25k.

Although not just Amsoil/Mobile 1 here is some advice I recieved:
But as I'm not driving a 951 [yet] and I've never autocrossed, take it with a sackfull of salt.

I had changed ALL fluids from the endine to the final drives. Did this in my past Volvo's, GMC Safari, Jeep Cherokee Laredo, Subaru Otback and now will di it with my 2003 Land Rover Discovery at 48,000 KM service ... which by the way is free ....from the dealer. I will hand them the fluids ... they will do the labour.

Hey ... to each their own.

Everyone has an opinion and they seem to stick with it. Some are set in their ways until they find something else. Just need to do a bit of research and that one source that may change their m ind.

Oh, Amsoli is availabe at many retailers around the world ... even Marinas carry the products.

I know a lot of race teams run it, but I have never seen comparison testing of it.

I've heard about it too, but never really read any testimonials or seen any studies on the actual product itself. I mostly heard about it when Slick 50 and Duralube were in style, remeber those products that stuck to the bottom of the oil pan?
