Default Turbo is Toast

Finally got my intake off to check for a restrictor due to my oil burning problem. There was a restrictor in place. I then pulled the MAF off the front of the turbo and the shaft has about a 1/4" of play in it. A couple of the blades look like they have been rubbing against the housing. I am NOT a happy camper to say the least. Anyone know where I can get a nice Stage 2 or 3 turbo?

Wow, how did that happen? Was that a brand new turbo? Did you prime it properly when you installed it? I am sorry to hear. . .

Not good Michelle...Sorry to hear it. If it happened to me I would be calling John at Vitesse.

Turbo was supposed to be brand new. I bought it along with the engine from Dan Scully and he said that it had zero miles on it; brand new from SFR. I primed the whole oil system before I EVER fired up the car and oil pressure was good. It already has a restrictor in it so I'm not sure if that's what failed or not. My problem with calling John is that I dumped all of my available cash into the rebuild. I'm tapped. Looks like she goes into the carriage house for the winter while I save $$

Does not look like its got zero miles on it. I wonder if SFR's warranty applies to the turbo or to the first person... maybe give Tim a call and see if he can help or give you some advice.

Michelle, if it is worth anything to you, I went through a similar experience. I spent over $2k on a turbo and other parts that were new and never installed, and at the end of the day I was out of pocket all that money and more. . .

Maybe Tim can rebuild it. It is tough to say since you did not buy it from him, but maybe he can rebuild it for you for a reasonable price. It is worth the phone call.

Best of luck!

I've been waiting since early July for a set of hard pipes he owes me (he welded the wrong bung for the banjo bolt). Three months w/o it. I don't think I'll get much help from him.

I'm really sorry Michelle. Whatever you do, make sure you spend a little extra and do it correctly. It will pay off later. Good luck to you. If you need any help, let me know.

Actually I might be able to help. It depends on when the turbo was bought.I know Dan got the turbo and motor from John who told Dan that the turbo was from us but I think it was actually from Kokeln.

Your second intercooler pipe has been ready to ship for three months but the red silicone hoses, you wanted have been backordered since then. I would have shipped the pipe out sooner but I wanted to ship everything at once and you did say that you got the pipe to work. I can ship the pipe out today for you because I would rather not have that hanging over my head and I will refund your money for the red silicone hose so you can get it elsewhere

Thanx Tim. What kind of prices can you offer me for a rebuild or a new turbo?
