My 944 NA race car used Mobil 1 f15/50 or along time. Ran fine, but I did notice the oil pressure dropping after 20+ min on the track.
What's a "bad" hot oil pressure ? Under load, even on the track mine never drops much below 4, and never below three. It will drop to around 3 at idle after running hot.

i ran the **** out of it for 2 or 3 days in a row (crazy weekend) and i was 3 quarts low.
Do you mean you had to add 3 quarts over the space of 3 days ?

3 quarts low and running the **** out of it? Keep it up, some of us need some spare parts here and like it when parts cars show up for the picking.

Well at 6000 RPM the oil pressure would drop to 3.5 to 3 bar using Mobil 1.

Using AMSOIL the pressures at 6000 RPM is maintinaed above 4 bar (closer to 4.5 bar).

Why not if it meets the API specs the car calls for? I know many bike oils have zinc and phosphates in them as a last resort protection (maybe not a bad idea anyway given the #2 bearing issues) but they're in there in the tenths of a percent. It's not the best thing for a catalyst of course, but some new BMW bikes have catalysts and still call for that oil. Ideally I'll be throwing a test pipe in there eventually and the catalyst will mostly be used for special occasions. It's definitely not on the level of catalyst destruction that leaded gas having the trace amounts of zinc and phosphorous in the oil.

If it's something else, I'd like to know about that.

Some oils are made for 2-stroke engines , some are made for 4-stroke engines, and then there are some oils compatiable for both 2 and 4 stroke engines.

What year is the car? If it is an 86 I call dibs on the fuchs. Those are pretty tough, and can usually outlast the crunched bodywork and the blown motor on most parts cars.

How many miles does it typically take for the piston rings to seat?

Is Mobil 1 15W-50 a good choice?

Please edumacate me!
I was using mobil 1 as well 15w 50 but my car was leaking oil from the oil pump. I switch back to 20w 50 castrol semi-synthetic and "Hasta la Vista oil leaks" .

it's an '86, and if i crash it, i'll wear the fuchs as a necklace.
"street racing thread killed" so what, it's not like there isnt one somewhere else here, i just wanted one that isnt for members only, and maybe one that was more specific to 944's.

Um. Look at Ski's car in his avatar.

It's used for what it was made for, in the proper place.

some people cant afford full race cars. ok, let's start posting it everywhere- unless you own a full-race car, you cant drive your car fast. ever. dont buy any more mods, dont buy 91 octane, just dont do anything.
