Can I borrow a TPS, help troubleshooting.
I have an 86, that at certain throttle positions, the car seems to hesitate for a second. Has done this with several different chips, VAFM and MAF. The plugs and wires are good and the cap and rotor are good. It ONLY hesitates in one position. If I watch my AFR meter it bottoms out when it happens, it happens around 1/4 throttle, like driving down the freeway, or light loads around town. Any help would be appriciated. I am currently running Vitesse MAF (awsome). The car runs great WOT.
Thanks,
Jonathan

you can take it off and test it if it doesnt work you can clean the inside test it to see if it is in spec and seal it back up with rtv and zip ties to hold it from popping open. I did this to mine but I was like ehh if it doesnt work i was going to get a new one anyway worth a shot if it dont work. Go to http://www.arnnworx.com/ he has a write up on the values you should be looking for

You can easily troubleshoot that one by just disconnecting the TPS wire. That way the engine will never see if the throttle is closed or not, and won't cut fuel ... you'll probably have high idle (like 1200-1400 rpms) and no engine braking but if it cures the hesitation, then you'll know it's the TPS.

Thanks, f1rocks was kind enough to send me one for testing. We'll find out soon enough, right now I have the car taken apart for oil pan gasket (fun). Hope to have it back together by the weekend and also install my new 30MM front anti roll bar.

Thanks to F1rocks, I now have a TPS that works and seems to have resolved my hesitation problem at partial throttle, no more surge. I have not had much time to test since install, but am pretty sure its gone.
Also, thanks for the post and instructions on how to repair the TPS, I will attempt to repair the old TPS.
