968 trans
Okay, just picked up the 6spd 968 transaxle. It is on it's way here with the mount, shift linkage, and shift rod. I understand I need a left axle. (By this I assume driver's side. . .) What else do I need?
Also, I would like information on the speedo fix. I did a search and only came up with stuff that people "heard."
PS- Not to be a jerk or anything, but I want answers from people that have actually DONE this. I just read through at least 12 topics about 968 transaxle conversions, and 98% of the posts were about what someone "heard." I need real information.
Thanks!

I hope this info is acceptable, as I have never done a 968 trans install but I am familiar with rally computers and secondary odo's.
Go here:
http://www.rally.cc/alfasu.htm
You can set up a sending unit to feed off the front or rear wheels (front is better for lack of wheel-spin error). Then purchase a unit to take that pulse and interpolate it into something that your electonic speedo can use (ie, figure out the pulse factor).
Shoot those guys an email and tell them what you are doing. You should be able to do this with no problem.
Good luck.

What's next you ask? I am staying 2.5, but I will be doubling up on something in the head.
PS-Did you get that beast running yet, or what?

Tere is a guy on the west coast "Mike Mitchel" (memory fade, might be the wrong name - he was on the old list) that installed a sensor to pick up a signal off of the half shafts. He found a box that converted the signal to work with the speedometer.
Cars with ABS will be able to use the ABS signal and convert it (same as the 968 does).

Thanks John, I have ABS, so I guess i just need to fab up a converter. What are you impressions of the 968 box, since I know you run it in your race car?

Ted, I might have the parts numbers that you need and the connection diagram. It was sent to me years back, but I never did use it myself. It's fairly simple as I recall, the problem is finding it
I like the 6-spd it keeps the turbo in the spoolup range.

John, that would be AWESOME if you could get me that info. Don't stress about it but if you come across it, that would be very helpful.

Ted,
Go to Clarks-Garage and pm Clark Fletcher. His 2.8 runs a 6speed 968 transmission. So, He's been there and done that, and has always responded well when I've talked with him privately. good luck E
