D993 The brakes for one thing are one of the best sets of brakes for that time on the supra. The supra handles very well and is pretty darn stable. Just because most people make them fast only for straight lines does not mean that they are not nice cars for other things or that they can not turn. Again a buick has an extra 800 ccs displacement. Nice car but that engine is still a pushrod gm 6. I love those cars as well but you can not compare. Plus like every other supra thread no one started out comparing them to our cars.

I've driven plenty of Supras. I just sold mine a year and a half ago.
It was an absolute single-purpose car, and not fun or communicative when driven. No involvement with the car whatsover.
That's why I compared it to a Mustang! Supras are Japanese Mustangs.

Like I said earlier: Japanese Mustangs. Nothing more.
Why does a (lightened) 3200lb Supra need 1500hp to do what a 3200lb 911 does with 900hp? (Remember Eddie Bello)?

It seems that the uninvolving symptom is something
that the Japs can't get it right. Can't understand why
is it so.

wow...one hand on the wheel at 150mph. Your earlier posts about the supra are pretty misinformed.

But, I need to say adios to this thread...after I posted about people getting their panties in a bunch...cant respect others cars not wearing certain badges....making ASSumptions using certain mis information through friends and the internet...ect.ect.

I could go on forever..these kinds of posts just prove my point.

Some of you guys need to chill out with the ego and hating. I see this thread going bad places so I will pull myself out now.

have fun

"btw I love grand nationals. Those cars ****ing ROCK! its a shame now though that everyone know what they are. Back in the day it was such a sleeper car."

Sleeper car? LOL, in the 80s and 90s they had a reputation as evil as the devil himself. EVERYONE feared GNs, corvette owners most of all.

"A friend of my dads used to pour ice into his icebox setup at the track. he was running mid 12's with bolt ons. Those cars are pretty cool"

My 83 T-Type Turbo(original 3.8 carburated turbo motor replaced with a .030 over 'hotair' EFI motor from an 85 Grand National) ran a best ever 12.4 with a 3" downpipe, off-road 2.5 cross-over dual exhaust, ceramic cross over pipe, 30lb injectors, 2800rpm stall converter, K&N 11" cone, and "Stage II" Poston Turbo running at 18psi....and it wasn't even intercooled.

The Buick 3.8 SFI Turbo motors are amazing power producers. Some of the top GN track cars stroked out to 4.3L were running in the high 8s 15 years ago.

Yes it's .8 liters bigger than the 3.0 of the Supra....but how is that bad? There's no replacement for displacement.

And yes...it is i a 2v/cylinder motor. Which makes it's performance all the more remarkable....and it means they cost a hell of a lot less to fix/rebuild than a 4v/cyl motor.
Again, that's a bad thing how?

Besides, like i said, the GN/T-Type is a MUCH cooler looking car IMO.

Here's a pic of my 83 T-Type:

It's not a bad thing, its just hard to compare. Kinda like comparing a Supra to a 951. That is all I meant by it. BTW, nice car.

Yeah, OK.
Now we have '89 Civics and Corollas that run safely at 150mph................
Don't forget to tack on an extra 200hp and couple thousand $$$ in suspension, wheels, and tire upgrades.
The point is this: German cars (even old VW's) were designed to run on the autobahn at over 150mph for a sustained amount of time, not just get to 150!!!
Jap cars, (no matter how fast you make them, and how many thousands of $$$ are spent on improving them) are always lacking in the suspension feel and control.
I see it as a waste of time.
But, yes, it CAN be done. That's why so many people do dumb **** like build a 500hp Camry: to say that they can. They take a hand-me-down from their older brother, sister, or mom and dad, and put all their $ in it for the next 3 years.
Yes, it can be done, and it's really like, uh, uh great...........if you're trying for the Dork Of The Year Award.

Wow spoken like a true porsche and mainly just a 911 owner. First off you can make any (or most) cars handle awesome. Even if they do spend the thousands of $'s they still will be below a 35k$ 993. I hope some day a evo 8 or a STI that has some upgrades fallows you on some back roads and just blows you away because those cars handle amazingly and have enough power to stay and pass you with you.

I can't belive you think these "projects" are stupid! I am in the process of trying to make a 12 second 1/4 mile ford festiva and if you do not think that is awesome well i don't know what is wrong with you. Its projects like this 1000 hp supra and even my crappy 100$ festiva that make owning cars so amazing. You need to open your eyes man.

WELL SAID!!!!!!!!!!!! Ian, I like it. It is such ashame that people that own Porsche's get a bad name because narrow minded people own them. I like all cars and good luck with the ford.
