What parts do you need weighed?

One of my cars is stripped to the bare chassis.

The weigh scales at my work is calibrated annually with supporting documents as in it’s always accurate.

You can see one of the scales in my link near the beginning of the thread titled rear suspension weights.

I lifted the hood with the luggage scale and it was dead on 42lbs, just like you said. I wish I had the other parts to re-weigh them but they are gone now unfortunately.

So I’ve made some progress over the winter/spring:

Reart hatch ended up being a total of 28# on my scale. That’s a 31# savings. Between that and the windshield swap, I’m at 43#, plus all the wiring and the other mods, should put the car down in the 2190-2210 range. I’m stoked!

Ugh, Im in the process of taking my polycarbonate hatch off and putting my factory one back on because I am going to run in letter class... I wish I had taken all the undercoating off when I built the car.. BTW I have not witnessed it first hand but a friend of mine who owns a very reputable race shop said he gave the "new guy" the task of stripping all the undercoating of a racecar they were building. Before he did, he made him weigh an empty garbage can and when he was finished and all the undercoating was in the can they re-weighed.. about 35 LBS.. Now I wish I had done it when I built the thing..

We did it on a BMW and it wasn't worth it, not at "our" level, anyway. My car will come in somewhere around 2225# empty and closer to 2475 with me and all safety gear and 2 gallons fuel. I'm running Super Touring 6 this year, and some SP1, which will require me to reinstall the hatch, mirrors and add a lot of ballast to make weight.

What is the purpose of the undercoating?
for a street car does it help prevent rust? 35lbs is quite a bit of savings.

prevents rust sound deadening.. Probably why there are so many 944s still around.. They never rot.. Plus the galvanizing helps.. but another hurdle when welding on the car.. 35 lbs is great weight savings when you have "the new guy" do it! LOL
