You sure you want to replace the glass with lexan ?
My rear lexan hatch cracked this Summer after a "genius " on the false grid pushed it down firmly
in the middle ... anyhow i had to scramble to get a quick replacement and i kind of like the glass one better !
You'll need to put softer struts instead of the OEM which are fairly stiff.
Not sure which wheels you're using , but if you have phone dials , those things weigh a ton and that's a fairly
large weight savings in the right places.
It seems you were already good for the 2600 lb weight limit ?
Phil, I'm running the cookie cutters on the dry tire setup, but Phonedials on rains. The reason I'm moving to lexan all around is in NASA 944Spec is dead in the mid-Atlantic. I'm going to be moving up a class, into SuperTouring-6, which is a quicker group. I'll be swapping out the lexan rear hatch for PCA SP1 races, which will require me to re-balance the weight. Fortunately I have the scales/tools to dial it in!
Thanks for the comment about the cracked hatch. I'll be sure to attempt to incorporate an aluminum brace for support.

Get a set of Monroe Jeep Wrangler hatch struts for your lexan unit, they're 1/3 the force of
the OEM units ...do a search , the part number is listed somewhere on the 944 forums .
I believe it's for 94 Jeep Wranglers ...
Does NASA still require fuel cells for the 944's ?
My car is an EX NASA car and the previous owner installed a 10 gallon fuel cell, which i'll be removing
over the Winter and replacing with a "later " poly original fuel tank !
I’m digging your car. Can you share a full pic or two?
She was for sale until after my first PCA race in September. I had so much fun, I decided to keep her. I have no traditional gauges, just an AIM dash and logger, and 4 toggles, a master off, and a fire pull. really basic interior.

Yeah , those phone dials are boat anchors ...
Cheers
Phil
Phil, Nasa doesn't require a fuel cell. Make sure you get the fuel line routing right. We had to drop Don Bryant's transaxle and fuel tank at the October race event to fix poor routing of the fuel lines. Once in place, you can crush the lines against the floor of the hatch.
Lexan Windshield came in from Fivestar bodies. It weighs 15.. The Glass windshield, gasket and associated material has a revised weight of 27#. So the net savings is 12#.

I finally got rid of some of the parts in my backyard and weighed a few before I got rid of them. Like I said above, this is on an old bathroom scale so the accuracy isn't going to be exact. I weighed myself and then weighed myself again holding each part to eliminate any possible slop in the low range of the scale. The parts are off an '83 car.
Hood - 56lbs
Fender - 17lbs
Door (stripped of everything except seals and mirror) - 45lbs
There is a lot of undercoating on those fenders so I would think you could knock off quite a few lbs by stripping it off. Considering that stripping it is free vs. the cost of fiberglass fenders, I would think it's worth doing if you need to drop weight.
No hinges were on it and the heat shielding foam stuff fell off long ago. I still have it sitting outside so I'll try weighing it again since the bathroom scale I used is pretty old and crappy. I have a luggage scale that is usually pretty accurate up to about 70lbs so I'll try weighing it with that tomorrow and see what it comes in at.
Ok disregard all the weights I posted. That scale must be way off! On the plus side I must weigh less too haha
I lifted the hood with the luggage scale and it was dead on 42lbs, just like you said. I wish I had the other parts to re-weigh them but they are gone now unfortunately.
