For those interested, we have a new oil drain plug in production. It's pre-tapped 1/8"NPT which you can get both full and half sweep sending units in that thread. It's a very custom plug that has a new and much larger magnet at the end, with openings for oil to get to the sending unit. When you drill and tap the stock one, you loose the magnet thus the reason for this product. Plus unless you remove your oil pan, there is no simple way to install a sender. West's idea works, but you loose the level sender. Just another option for you to choose.

The turbo drain? We're interested in the average temp of the oil
in the oil pan and not the temp of the oil coming out of the turbo.

The oil temp coming out of the turbo would be the hottest.

That's correct. And that's not what what we want to know.

I have run a sensor in the turbo drain and now have a bung welded beside the stock drain plug, only 15 deg temp difference between the two locations.

That temp difference would likely vary depending on how long you stay on boost, how much boost you run and whether it's a dry or wet turbo.

Dave... you just proved our point. Thanks. Why build something 5-10% or maybe more off when you
can do it right.

West,

I would like to see this at the may DE if you are going to be there.

You don't need no stinkin' antilock brakes.
