Engine Seized: Now What? Rebuilding Suggestions.
So, my engine is offically seized. I still need to find out if the block is trashed or not. The #3 piston ring, I believe, has made its way into the cylinder wall. I still need to make sure. But what next? I need to save as much money as possible, but I want to do this rebuild correctly. Should I sleeve the block? Get higher compression pistons? Cut the deck? I like the idea of more low end. Please, any and all ideas. The best places to source parts would be awesome as well. Thanks

Derek: Man, i know how crappy you must feel. My 88NA engine siezed to the point that the pistons wouldn't move by hand or electricity (starter). The engine block is just crap right now, head is good though.
Contact Chris White about sleeving the block, i recall them being a 2.7L? I believe that by going oversize, it would costmore/less the same (including the over-sized pistons). But you would need all the goodies (chips/tuning/ECU) to make it all work together.

Dude, there is a rebuilt shortblock w/ 10K miles on it for sale on this same list for $1,000! I'd make the deal with him quick if I were you - cheapest way out of your dilema fo-sure!

How can a 2.7l be cheaper than just a stock rebuild? Is it because I need to get a new block to do a stock rebuild and if I go 2.7l sleeve I use my original block?

Renlister Zero10 estimated US$2,200 for the rebuild he was doing himself, ended up spending ~US$4,000 or so.
You can always consider a used block (from ANY 2.5L early/late 944) and tap the balance shaft housing for the oil feed line for the turbocharger. Then get used pistons (or new from me LOL). Then new bearings, seals, etc.

Derek, I don't really want to sell my engine, but I just yanked a perfectly good running, 130K '86 Turbo engine out of my car. Nothing wrong with it, I just have other plans. If you can't find anything else, lemme know and maybe we can work something out. If you live where I think you do, I'm 2 hours away.

If you really want to save as much money as possible, then buying a good used motor out of a running car is the way to go in my opinion. There is no cheaper, quicker or more risk-free way to get it going again.
