I should have bought a honda. I think I am going to try and fork over the extra for Chris White's sleeving. I want to do it correctly.

Hey Derek
Sorry, I just saw this ...
Good luck
I have to say the Chris White's option looks real sweet but I think the $ are going to be considerable. That statement you made about the Honda is so true ... For a daily driver there is no more reliable car but it obviously lacks the *****.
Hope it all wks out for you
regards
Ed

A used block is the cheapest way!

WHat do you guys think a fair price is for a 130K mile short block, new belts, balance shaft seals, and WP, never modded, good oil pressure (4.5 at speed, just under 3 at idle)? Is 1K too much? what about $800. I want to help Derek back on the road, but I don't want to screw myself in the process. I was going to keep the engine as a spare in case I had trouble down the road, but Derek is close and I'd like to help him out. ANy ideas?

BTW - There would be no shipping cost as he lives 2 hours away and I could load it in my truck and bring it to him.

Short block is without the cylinder head - if you've got belts and WP I'm assuming the head is on? That makes it harder to inspect but easier to install. I like to hear an engine run if I'm going to buy it but the word of a rennlister in person is pretty good too :-)
I'd pay 1k for a known good long block that got me back on the road, especially if I was considering building something like a 2.7 or other non-stock configuration.

Three Wheelin'
To reply to an earlier question, my motor did sell on ebay, but the buyer backed out. I raised the price due to the cylinder walls being confirmed good when I took the head off.

Head is on, but I expected to take it off to inspect the cylinders. I was also including the turbo, but perhaps I should yank it off?

That's a super price Michelle...and very nice of you. Chris White's sleeving is the way to go if you want to really do it right. The reason it makes sense, sort of, to increase displacement, is that sleeving, pistons, rings, rods, etc. will run you the same either way, if you use Chris. However, you have to change your tuning, turbo, and the engines "lung capacity" at the same time. Now, if you stay the same disp., (but you'd rebuild, or buy a new turbo anyway, right?) then you'll have a seriously wqell built 2.5 monster, that theoretically should handle a strong twist of the boost **** without launching the head into outer space. He'll even build the short block for you. Contact him at 944Enhancement, or via his Rennlist account. He'll take very good care of you.

All I have to say is from the spring game, Gators + Urban = Destroy. The FSU game is going to be an redonkuless. We were talking about it last night. We are going to try and organize an entire class tailgate party.
Unless you want to eventually club race, and your block is trashed, I would go with more liters. Chris White's options are nice. You can also contact Jason Lee at heritage motorcar. Jason knows his stuff, and if you want to do something crazy like turn your 951 into something that actually flys like a plane jason could probably do it. Good Luck.

...ofcourse he got pretty smart when he played Florida. Wasn't he 3-1? hmmm,,,what's THAT say? Be careful about counting your Urbans before they hatch.
