Default Individual TB thoughts...Runner length? Plenum volume? TB position?

Anyone thought about using an SR20 factory individual TB intake in a kit for the 951? They are 48mm and CHEAP as... I wonder if one could be used in the process... thoughts? I am thinking about doing this with help from some engineer mates but need to be sure of the design, maybe a doner intake manifold would be required.

Andrew, thats great thinking IMHO, theres no reason for these things to go for 5600... ok, maybe for a track car with the owner being far better then you, or I are... At least in at this point in life.
I love all the talk about individual throttle bodies, I want to see who goes through with it, and what the gains are. I think I'll call it ITBS... Individual Throttle Body Syndrom... We all seem to have caught it lately.

hmm,at first i thought of 240sx's when you said sr20 but then theres the fwd pulsar gtir.i wouldnt see how hard it would be,probably if you're still running the stock afm but if you got a MAP based setup or standalone, fabbing one up doesnt seem that hard.the toyota corolla has ITBs stock.the 4AGE 20V.it would be awsome to have a ITB setup for the 951.

Clever boy Andrew,
I have one sitting on my table.
Got it cheap as well. I think theres
a clearance issue with No.4 cylinder.
Problem is that you do not want to make
short runner/manifold as it would take away
the low end torque. Also if the heads are'nt ported
the effort would go to waste. That's why I have not
bother to fiddle with it but it would be a good candidate
for my 16v head. As the pleneum is in two parts, it would
be easy to fabricate a carbon piece.

A mate has an SR20 and 4AGE ITB, recall the 4AGE is 43mm. The SR20 also looks more simple in design. It can be done, talking to mates, its just about the expected benefits...

Have you made any inroads or offer any more advice on the design side of things? How long should I target for runner length? Were you going to chop a stock intake and use parts of it?

No NZ, have not the time to do anything yet.
Theres also another issue to address. Port to
Port distance. Though I have not done any
measurements, I would presume that there
would be a problem as the SR is 2L & ours is
a 2.5 L. If you look the the TB of the SR20, you
will see that there's a manifold bolted to the TB.
What we need to fabricate is that part first.
No need to cut up our stock manifold, just
get a template for the flange as well as a template
for the flange of the TB & machine a set. The runners
can be built from mandrel bends. Than theres the issue
of custom or modified fuel rail as well as the fitment of
the TPS. Aaah, theres also the issue of vacuum supply.
This is only speculation but we may have to add a vacuum
can but this is a small issue.
BTW, what does it cost to buy one. I got lucky cause it came
from a friends blown up engine. Down here, nobody would wants
to part with the TBs.

The M-series engines from BMW also have the individual throttle bodies. You could look to those for info and ideas. The e30 M3 from the late 80's is a four cylinder and would probably be the closest thing to the Porsche 944 engine from the M-series engines. Just throwin it out there.

Except parts are expensive. Trust me on that one.

Still bore spacing would be an issue
cause the TBs are siamese as pairs.
Besides the TBs from the SR's are design
for turbo application in the first place which
would mean less problems especially with air
leaks under pressure.
