Default Clear markers and signal lenses for cheap?

This topic came up in another thread, but I wanted to make sure it was clearly visible to everyone, so I'm starting a new thread...

There's a company out there called Klearz that claims they can make a full set of clear or smoked side-marker lenses (all 4) for $100. He can also duplicate the turn signal lenses and any other lenses that we want.

If you are interested in some lower-cost lens options like I am, please visit this page and show your interest. If he gets 5 people at "high" interest, he will produce them.

I added my name to high interest but noticed there is no input for the front turn signals only front sides and tailights?

I added my name. Make sure to add your name to the turn signals as well if you are interested in those.

Question

What this guy is doing is actually pretty simple, and I've looked* into doing it myself, rather than paying some pretty stout prices for aftermarket clear lenses.

I surmise he gets a new factory lens, then uses it as a master to make a relatively simple two-part mold, probably out of silicone or latex. Then, he does an acrylic casting into the mold to make a duplicate part, in whatever color he wants by adding a bit of dye to the liquid acrylic.

This is a prime candidate for a mass run of clear or tinted turn signal and side marker lenses. Notice his price graduation: The price drops radically with just a few more buyers of a given part. I'll bet with several dozen orders for a combined turn & side marker lens kit, we could negotiate his priceline a lot further down the scale.

Should we ask him?

*Search Google for "casting acrylic' or 'acrylic mold' or similar terms. I found a PDF file that describes the whole process, using silicone and/or latex. This stuff can be bought by the gallon at art supply stores, etc. in the yellow pages. Put it into a cup, add some hardener, pour or vacuum into mold, tthen it hardens into the molded shape. It ain't rocket science.

Hey guys,
This is Klearz the company offering to make the lens.

As mentioned we do resin-casting which is not rocket science but does require alot of practice. and practicing with these kinds of products is very expensive.

We will almost definatly be producing some kind of lens for the 944 soon.
Wether it be with this forum or with a producer i am talking with.

Here are some quotes for the turn signal and side markers. (they are alot bigger then i originaly thought)

side marker
If you buy these by yourself it would be 100 total.
for 2 ppl 90$ each
for 3 ppl 80$ each
for 4 ppl 60$ each
for 5 ppl 40$ each

turn signal

So if you buy these by yourself it would be 200 total.
for 2 ppl 170$ each
for 3 ppl 140$ each
for 4 ppl 110$ each
for 5 ppl 80$ each

we can produce pretty much any lens you are intersted in, in all clear or colored. we can do smoked lenses too.

post pictures of any lens you would like to see a quote for.

As you can see in the quotes the price is alot less once we get a group of 5 or more together. that is the price break, the price wont go any lower if there is 20 or 100 ppl.

if we get 5 ppl intersted in 1 product, then we will request a small down payment from each person. and someone will have to send me a donor lens in good shape. it would be returned undamaged.

let me know if you have any questions

Mr Klearz: First of all, can you give us your name so we know who are are talking to?

I think by the interest shown in this thread, you will have no problem getting 5 people to put downpayments on each of the sets (front markers, rear markers, and front signals). How would you like to proceed?

I will also check with the list owner, John Dunkle, to make sure he's ok with us coordinating this group buy on Rennlist.

Thanks
