UPDATE

I spoke to Griffin today. The prototype has been through welding and epoxy, and is in final inspection. Word is that it will ship tomorrow Tuesday 4/26. I will call them Tuesday and hopefully they will give me a tracking number. I will post when I get a tracking number. As stated before I will install as soon as I get it, and then the group buy will be on.

And for me, the radiator can not get here fast enough. The weather is nice and I sure miss driving my car.

BIG UPDATE

I have a UPS tracking number!!!!

The prototype 951 radiator is scheduled to hit my door step on Tuesday 5/3. Griffin miss-typed and sent the radiator to Cellroy instead of Gilroy....Boy! I called UPS and they said it should not be a problem, since the zipcode was correct.

HERE IS THE CURRENT LIST OF APPROVED RENNLIST GROUP BUY MEMBERS - 45 total (just past a good number (44) , not quite a great number! (51))

PM me with any changes to the above list.

This is how I see this going down. I install the prototype in my car 5/5. If there are no fitment/quality issues, I contact Griffin, post pictures and the buy is on 5/6. Members will have 1 week (or less if everyone is on the ball) to call Griffin and arainge payment. After the final payment is in, the final count will go to Griffin manufacturing 5/13. It should take 2-3 weeks for Griffin to fab the order. Each radiator will ship, in the order of payment, as it comes out of testing 5/27 - 6/1. Shipping around 5 days.

SO START SAVING YOUR LUNCH MONEY!

cas951,

I will give you a call when the prototype arrives. It would be good to give the members a second opinion.

Drip by? Sounds like this radiator group buy is not too soon for you.

Bill, do you have any information on just how difficult this would be to install in a '87 944S? It's really an excellent opportunity for any who can utilize that particular radiator (even if purchased as a potential back-up) They don't last forever as we all know!

Thanks much!

Jim 944S

The 951 radiator is taller than the 944 radiator. To install in a 944S a rennlist member said on a prior page of this post, that it was not too difficult. He said that the sheetmetal below the radiator needs to be removed and modified. The radiator does not mount with a solid bolted connection, it uses rubber isolators at the top and bottom of the radiator. This isolates the radiator from the electrical ground to prevent electrolosis. Also the lower radiator hose needs to be longer. The sheetmetal under my radiator is bolted in with 4 bolts, and is easly removed. Weld some tabs and presto? And perhaps just a 951 lower hose would do. I do not know this for certain though. Also, this information is on the Paragon web site.

*944S2 and 968 using radiator 951.106.031.05 must also purchase part # 951.106.031.06 "Block Off Plate".

I will absolutely post pictures.

THE PROTOTYPE HAS LANDED!

I got the Griffin 944 turbo radiator on Wednesday 4/4. Took yesterday off, and got the radiator into the car. The fit into the car is perfect. The bolt holes for the fan shroud need some tweeking. I will confirm my measurement this afternoon and fax the revisions to Griffin. Monday, I should be able to kick off the group buy.

The Griffin radiator is a work of art. Beautiful quality. Stock radiator weights 10lbs. The all aluminum Griffin radiator weights 7lbs. All hose fittings are heilarc welded aluminum. No brass or plastic fittings. I will post pictures this weekend.

Then I will be able to go out for a summers drive in the 951 again. Finally!
