Default argghhh wastegate line issues.

Okay it seems after it happened for a second time tonight that this isssue isint going to just go away and I need some rennlist suggestion's. Some background

A few weeks ago while I was boosting a little maybe 17psi or so my boost suddenly dropped and dropped hard. After that I could only build about 8psi of boost pressure at all in any gear at any rpm! I was pissed to say the least cause at first thought I was concerned my clutch had finally given way. My clutch is been getting weaker and weaker and it didnt have long. I did some testing and I didn't feel any slipping at all. So it obviously wasen't the clutch. My vac readings were 19HG at idle and 21 in gear. Hmmm no vac leak. I double and tripple checked every line I could find and they were all connected properly. So I pulled my controll panel off and looked behind my boost controller. I have two vac lines running on this lindsey boost controlller. They were connected fine. Hmm

I jacked the car up and looked at the wastegate thinking oh **** there go's 400 bucks. Looking at both ports the top one had the proper vac line but, the side one didn't. I looked around with a flashlight and found the line. I plugged it back up and took her off down the street. Ahhhhh booooooost!

So I was curious why after all this time my line would blow off like that but, I just didn't think much of it. Until tonight. I was playing around with a friend of mine david and his new 400HP GTO. Until suddenly bam! No more boost again relying on the spring pressure of the wastegate. ****

So my quesiton is. Is this common? What can I do to make sure the line doesnt blow off again? What might be causing this? Are my lines getting old or something and need replacing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I dont want to have this happen at the track or something that would totally suck. Going from 20psi to 8 hurts

BTW those new 400hp GTO's arent all that fast

I take it your running LR vac lines...put a tie wrap on it but before you do, cut a 1/4" off and get a "new" bite.

Bret you think a tie wrap will hold just fine?

If so thats a pretty easy fix. Should I be worried about anything else?

At 20 I'm not sure but a tie wrap should do it. I've also used some small metal spring clips that you can get at HD and Lowes but they stretch out after several times on and off. I think your line just lost the "bite" after all the work you've done.

Depending on what we(jim and me) do with the cage that we got out of the race car, we may have the main section to sell or give away. I'll keep you informed.

John,

I've been using these small fittings:

It's a litle bit heavier than a tie wrap, but I never had any problems anymore regarding hoses coming off.

I only use zipties on the small vac hoses, any hose larger than 1/4 " I use the fuel injection
hose clamps.

RobNL,
Where do you get those hose clamps ????
They look just like the original factory version.......I've been trying to find those without success. The Swiss Porsche dealers are of no help....

My Porsche garage did have a stockpile of those small hose clamps (8, 9 or 10 mm diameter). I prefer the ones with the inner ring:

When you do a search at Google look for "Ohr Klemme" you'll find enough shops in Germany or other German speaking countries that have them.

For example here: www.spenglerwerkzeuge.ch

You can also find those particular clamps and many other varieties at http://www.mcmastercarr.com

Do a search for Nylon Snap-Grip Hose and Tube Clamps. They look great for holding vacuum tubing, and they are good for more than one-time use.

No I don't work for them, they just have tons of useful items!

*hint-hint* even silicon tubing

I use zipties on the small ones and Carquest fuel injection clamps made in the U.S.A. with a screw adjustment. Diluting the German engineering gene pool is a bad thing; but it works.
