Default RPM signal 0-5v

Hi All,

I am looking for 0-5v RPM for logging looking at the DME pins out there are pin 8, 27 and 21. I hook up to pin 21 going to the tacho but found that this is pulsing 0-10v.

Can anyone shed some light on which pin I should use?

The DME RPM signal is frequency based. You will need a frequency-to-voltage converter if you want a 0-5V rpm related signal.

So going back to hooking up a wideband datalogger I would need a frequency to voltage converter??

Brett - I am sure it reads square wave, like the Zeitronix - so you should be fine.

Hey SpecialTool, what's this in your avatar?

Before hoocking up the Tach signal, make sure tio read the instructions for your Data Logger, some of them autocalibrate, some do not...

The DL1 read the pulse but it need to be between 0-5v. Special Tool had given me a new direction to try out, I will report back.

here's what the tach signal looks like:

Measure the time-interval between each grounding pulse (t). Then plug into 15/t=RPM .

If you are hooking up the Race Technology DL1, run Pin 1 of the DME into the High Level RPM input.

If you want a timing pulse to be read as an analog signal, you need to add a simple R/C circuit and a buffer. Send me a PM if you want all the boring details.

Brett,

You should be able to hook up DME Pin 21 to either one of the speed inputs on the M-500. The manual states that the M-500 will clip the speed inputs to 5V and DME Pin 21 will not exceed the 25V maximum of the M-500.
