I've seen that before. I don't even want to think about how much lag it would have from the ridiculous volume of intercooler piping.

I hear it works decently well, but all those systems run low boost and the turbo is designed with that spot in mind. Plus they dont have intercoolers. Just look at the size of that turbo for a V8... It looks like a K26/6.

I hate the fact that the air filter sits in such a horrible spot. The underside of my car after 1000+ miles in the mountain roads its horribly nasty. Taking a REAL big risk IMHO with the filter and all the important bits that are back there.

Agreed, if they really wanted to do this correctly, the best way would probably be to partition off some of the trunk and route the filter up there.

Not only that, but don't you want the turbine as close as possible to the headers for quicker exhaust gas flow?

This is all true. The issue is that there is no space in these V-8 cars (well, the trucks yes) for a turbo system up front.

Why not when you could get 100hp with this bolt on? I sure would.

A could 928 guys are gonna try it out. I will too.

The air intake is an issue. I'm thinking protected area in fender.

To be honest about the piping...measure the length of our exhaust before the turbo and the lenght of piping between turbo and intake plenum...they're both quite long.
That air intake is a serious problem, but that long tube from turbo to intake acts as an intercooler.

Lag is not a big issue with a 350CI motor. "Lag" is overcome by this thing that those crazy Domestic guys call "Torque."

Saw this same setup installed on a Camaro in a recent airing of "Two Guys Garage" on Speed Channel. They claimed some fairly significant power and torque gains BEFORE any tuning.

I have some serious reservations about the system though, mainly from the stand point of turbo lag due to the legnth of the plumbing.

I saw it on there too, and my first response was 'since when was there a rear-engined camaro?..'
I just had to go look it up online...
What a wacky idea, but it actually seems to work remarkably well, given the options available for those cars, this actually doesn't seem that bad.

Yeah, Lag will be unavoidable.

It just needs to be on a bigger sized motor. 4.0L and above probably.

WTH!??@ Why do that, you have to wait for exhaust to run all the way through (including restrictive cats.) spool up the turbo then go all the way back up front. Let along that turbo is very small for a V8. Whats with the intake being there 4 inchs from the dirty water and snow covered ground!!!!! Its a good experiment but seems like it wouldn't make any since...

http://www.ststurbo.com/

I personally wouldn't do it with Cats.

My point of view is a very busy engine bay with very little space for turbos, and the money that would need to be invested to make sure the turbo heat wouldn't cook everything in there.

Oh, and the over 10,000 dollars the guy that does turbos for early 928s wants for the job.

944s need a turbo to even get out of thier own way. So this idea is obviously not going to work with the lag and lower boost and efficiency loss.

A nice big V-8 is going to be able to do well on its own, and adding a few psi for a few grand is a great idea.
