I think my regulator I ordered is bad, as some runs it I can make the boost that I set, then other runs it only makes about 8-10 psi. Put the reliaboost back on and it is fine. Put reliaboost on with relief and fine. So it looks like the regulator might be bad.

I have one concern with the check valve setup. It looks like the Audi boys are running it back to just upstream of the relief valve. Do they get their pressure from the IC (like we do in stock config) or from their manifold ?

If it's the IC, then at no point does that ever go to vacuum.

If it's the manifold, and you shift quickly enough, you don't necessarily generate a whole lot of vacuum in the manifold, right ? You will also end up dragging the WG line down to a varying pressure rather than 1 bar if you had the check valve to the atmoshpere.

The relief valve will open with a pressure differential, rather than an absolute pressure on the upstream side, so when it opens will be determined by the varying pressure in the WG line. I'd be worried you could "pump up" your boost by repeatedly backing off a little. This would let the releif close, once the pressure on both sides equalised.

i.e. for releif at 15psi: Boost to 15, back off to 10. P(WG)=10, P(IC)=10
Boost again. P(IC) has to go up to 25 psi before you get a differential of 15 across the releif valve.

Of course, I'm just an engineer so this is all theory. Reality may be a completely different beast

Hi Toddk,
The Reliaboost takes the place of the relief valve.
You must keep the regulator. For sure you will not
see any diff since you're running with 2 relief valves.
You're forgetting that the Reliaboost is a relief valve

Old thread

How many are running this "boost machine" here?

Have you guys built it exactly like the drawings on this page?

These are sold commercially.

They work well if you have a single port wastegate but are not the recommended conrtoller for a dual port setup. Dual port requires the use of a bleed type controller.

I dont know if any 951 guys are using that setup exactly as shown, since that is for the Audi 1.8/2.0 Turbo motor using the Audi ECU controls and N75 Valve (which sounds somewhat similar to the 951 Cycling valve).

Someone that is familiar with the Audi system could comment on the differences/similarities between it and the 951 setup.

Offhand, I do not see what the benefit would be of running the WG control line through a pressure relief, through a pressure regulator and through the cycling valve, before going to the WG diaphram on the stock single port WG on a 951. Seems like more of a mess than anything actually beneficial.

It seems like an overly complicated solution since running an MBC only works very well. If you are running stock turbo and wastegate I recommend the accuboost but some people prefer the bleed type valves.

Yes, I built one and used it but did not see any noticable results.

I tried several configurations and still no noticable results.

I have been using the boost machine and very happy with it. Spool time is crazy short (1 bar @ 2700 rpm & 2 bars at 3600 rpm). 20 lbs of boost is quickly on hand in all gears including 1st (Limited at 20) I currently do not have the 1 way valve in place, but I'm going to try it again shortly. It was seeming to defeat the pressure regulator when I initially installed it, but I had leaks all over the place. I've got the system pretty well sealed up now. D

No I currently have it setup as single port. Wasn't sure how to set it up as dual port.
