stock fpr vs. black 3 bar fpr?
Just wanted to know if someone could tell me what the stocks' bar is compared to the black 3 bar? Does it somewhat make a "real" difference compared to stocks' rating? I'm new and trying to learn all i can about the 951, so please forgive me if i ask a "stupid" question.
Thanks,
Ty!

When i replaced my FPR, i contacted Dave Lindsey @ Lindsey racing and informed me that the stock was 2.5bar.
Anything more than that on a STOCK car would indeed make you run rich. Unless you have a set of chips, intake, turbo, injectors or any other setup that requires fuel pressure over 2.5bar, then there is no need for the 3.0 bar FPR

Thanks hosrom_951,
The problem is that i'm already running too rich and was try to figure out why! I change the O2 sensor but still rich. I read in someone's previous post that by changing their fpr it solved the problem of being too rich. I am also going to change the damper at the same time since it doesn't look like they've been changed in a while.

How do you know you are running rich? If your car is stock, then you dont want to adjust your fuel pressure, you want to find out why you are running so rich. The adjustable regs fail all too frequently, and you only really need the 3 bar if you are buying a kit that requires the exra fuel becuase you dont have bigger injectors. I think the stock rating says it should be between 2.5 and 2.8 bar.

I have a strong smell of gas! (not me - the car!) Also i have a a/f ratio gauge hooked up to the black wire from the o2 sensor in the engine bay but it stays pegged to the rich green side. I posted a hook up question because i just wanted to make sure i had it hooked up correctly and that i wasn't getting the right signal.

See if you can get a fuel pressure gauge. It wasn't clear from your post if you understood this, but the reason a fpr failing causes your car to run rich is because when they fail the fuel pressure goes way up. Sorry if you already got that.

Gas smell doesn't always mean your running rich.
Drive at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) and let someone tail you from behind, if you notice and BLACK smoke off the exhaust, that means your running rich.
Where is the fuel smell comming from? climate control on/off windows up or down?

A bit of both with windows up and down. There aren't any fuel leaks under the hood (knock on wood) because i've checked the lines thoroughly and around the injectors for leaks. Plus the exhaust has black soot all out the tail pipe. I know it should have some from the exhaust pipe, but it has more soot than normal. Plus there's a strong gas smell when standing behind car when it's idleing. If i had to get the car inspected i'm pretty sure it probably wouldn't pass the emissions test! Glad i stay in N.C.

If its more noticable on Boost then check for a leak in the intake and vacuum hoses. Any leaks will reduce the performance and make you run rich on boost. They are very common.

Wait a minute - what do you mean it "stays pegged"? If iit never moves, your o2 is NOT hooked up correctly, and neither your guage, nor you ecu is getting any signal from it. No signal would cause you to run rich.
Is it connected to the WRONG connector in the engine bay? Post a picture of the routing of your lambda harness.
It is NOT shorted, because a short will result in a blown fuse #34 and a no-run situation.

I don't have a digital camera yet, although I have changed the o2 sensor with the same rich problem. When i start the car the a/f ratio guage lights do go from red to green, so i'm pretty sure the sensor is working. The 3 wire heated o2 sensor i have has 2 white wires and 1 black. The gauge is spliced onto the black wire. #34 fuse was checked and has not blown. I will change the fpr and damper to see if that works, but i was just wondering why people upgrade from the stock fpr to the 3 bar black one.
