Lindsey Vs Guru
Hi folks,
I'm looking for some input....
I'm in the UK and have an '87 virtually stock 132,000 mile 951 (Only mods are Lindsey Boost Enhancer, Bailey Dump Valve, Bailey Vacuum Hose kit) and I'm looking at a basic chip kit.
Guru or Lindsey? - I'm talking about the basic chip packages here, that come with a 3 Bar FPR and wastegate shim. Nothing fancy.
The Guru Kit is about $300, had rave reviews, but I've heard it is near-impossible to get hold of. I know. I've already ordered one, about 7 weeks back. I've had to claim the payment back now. It's a shame - Danno was really helpful over e-mail when I first enquired!
The Lindsey kit looks to contain the same stuff, and is about $400.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to which is 'better'? (What is the specific defference between a Guru chipset and a Lindsey Chipset?)
I've just become aware (due to these boards) that some international members have has some issues with Lindsey.
A Friend is off to the USA on Saturday for 4 weeks, to stay with friends Christmas, so she would be able to order the bits while over there, and bring them back personally.
I do also have an Autothority Chip Kit, but I've heard mixed reports about this (makes engine run Lean?), but I wouldn't be able to fit it anyway - My '87 has a 28 pin ECU, whereas the autothority chips are both 24 pin (for earlier cars). I thought my '87 would have a 24/24 set up, but DOH! It looks like a second hand ECU has been fitted at some point! I do have an '86 951 as well, so maybe I'll just try the Autothority in that.
So, who rates what?
Guru Chips or Lindsey Chips?
Please let me know what you think!
Cheers,
Deja

Ever thought of Vitesse AFM chips? there was a thread a few days back regarding Lindsey Chips, but it seems like no one here has one to report?

Guru is better than Lindsey...
Im using Vitesse chips now and like them better than the Guru chips. Drivability and power seems smoother with the Vitesse Chips... But Guru was also very good and a little cheaper.

If you want Guru you could try powerwerks.net Paul is a Rennlist sponsor and East Coast Guru distributer(better for you in England) might be able to get you your stuff quicker...

You definitely want to take a look at the Vitesse chips if you haven't already. Vitesse Racing John is very, very responsive to email - probably the most responsive vendor I've talked to in that aspect.

Has anyone done compared one set to another? You guys say you like the Vitesse, I have the Guru 15psi chip set now and was wondering if I should get their chips, but if I do, what kind of benefit will I see? If I do go to Vitesse, I was thinking of getting a chip with 18psi instead of the 15 that I have now. Since I have a Tial 38 WG and reli-boost already, all I would need is the chips and re-set my boost.

Since you asked...
I tried to get GURU parts but when 6 weeks went by (they were promised in 1), I looked elsewhere. I got the Vitesse chips (k27/6 with AFM) in 3 days and customer support was great. Car runs great. I ordered the braided fuel lines from Lindsey (my only purchase so far) and they were here the NEXT day and fit perfectly.
When the GURU chips finally showed up, I returned them and the GURU WG (never did get the FPR). It took abt 5 weeks to get all my money back (again - promised in 1 week).
I think Danno is probably a decent enough guy. He provides a lot of good info here. Some have had good business dealings with him. I and others have not. I won't deal with him again as long as guys like John at Vit and Dave at Lindsey are around and don't understand why any one else would either...

I've had Autothority, Guru, and Vitesse chips in my car. I've gotten rid of the other two and am keeping the Vitesse chips based on my experiences. The Vitesse chips are great, but when you factor in the support and helpfulness factor from John they were the hands-down favorite for me.
