Today I finally "installed" my ipod, complete with a power adapter:
I cannot see the screen unless I take the ipod out, but I realized that I usually put it on random shuffle and hit "next" until I find a song that suits my mood anyways...

Very nice. This is what I want to do with my HD player as well. I picked up an RCA Lyra 20GB mp3 player for $50.00!!! I want to wire the line-out of the player into the back of the stereo deck, or the amplifier, whichever works best? I plan on finding a suitable DC/DC power supply that I can wire right into the 12v supply to give me the 5.5v to power the player w/o using batteries. I actually wanted to put it in the console, but I'm not sure that will work yet? I dont even own the car, just planning things out ahead of time. Do you think it would be possible to run a wire down from inside the console, or is there no possible way without it hanging outside of the body of the console?

nice - i have mine wired in as well and find that i use the 'shuffle' and 'next' setup, too.
i might suggest using the wired remote that comes with the ipod, and you'll never have to open the slider! i have my remote attached with a small piece of velcro on the passenger side of the center console - so that the passengers mid-thigh is right next to the remote. i can just put my hand on the console (right near the ashtray) and my fingers just fall right onto the buttons. its great.
you can tuck the wires right under the console easily.
oh - and if you use the remote, you can spin the ipod around and show the screen when you slide it open! win-win in my book.
nice work!

Ouch! Here in florida I can't leave my ipod in my car, it gets really hot from the sun. I usually have mine in the under the armrest in the center and when I pull it out the screen is extremely dark from how it was heated up! Watch out for that!
