New 951 owner
Owned this 86’ about 2 months now. 78k miles. Did about $8k in deferred maintenance, added LR instant HP kit. Only things remaining to sort out are repairs to front driver seat leather, and putting original blaupunkt radio in.

Couple of picks of my 944 turbo from Riga's “Motor Museum”. They have exhibition celebrating Porsche’s 75 years as well honoring Anatols Lapins, who was Porsche chief designer form 1969 till 1988, and who came from Riga (Latvia). Most of the cars are from that era and are privately owned by locals, except 911(930) Turbo, 928GTS Wiedeking Edition and 917/20 "Pink Pig" racecar that raced LeMans in 1971, that were brought from Porsche museum in Stuttgart.

It's not translation - his official name based on official records (Latvian State Archive data) was Anatols Kārlis Lapiņš He was born in Latvia and spent there around first ten years of his life. When his family emigrated from Latvia due to WW2 in 1939 (his family had old German roots), he did changed his name in later years. Maybe it was done to better integrate in the west and/or to make it easier pronounce to others as in Latvian his name pronounces quite different from from English and would be challenging for most non-Latvian speakers to pronounce correctly If you want to hear how his original name sounded, you can copy it from my post to Google translate and hear it there - it will be quite accurate pronunciation.

unfortunately not correct. I do have his birth certificates, which state different.
I am well aware of every detail and the family history.
you are though correct that the name was changed for easier spelling and pronunciation, but not changed from Lapins. our name has a very different origin as stated.
best, Hans Lapine

Thank you for clarification. Is there any public source where more information can be found? It would be good to understand the reason for the differences how his surname is written in Latvian and English/German. I have red that his father was Latvian and Lapiņš is one of the most common surnames here in Latvia (the meaning is close to "tree leaf)" ), but in late 20s and early 30s of the 20th century the modern orthography was just introduced and before that it was different, which might explain the difference. For me as a Latvian it is often hard to read 100+ years lad texts due to that reason However, I might be wrong and there is different reason why his surname writing between Latvian and German/English is different and looking at you surname, you must have better knowledge then me Probably, also this is not the right topic where to discuss it, thus if you with to add anything to the above, please free to contact me though PM

260,000+ miles. I’ve driven it a lot for 34 years. Yes, front fender was rolled just a bit. The 18” wheels were needed to accommodate big red brakes front and rear. Currently the rear tires are Michelin Pilot sport cup 2 to help keep from wheelspin.
Lotsa power with new Porsche Motorsport engine, 3.05 liter, sleeved. Large turbo, large exhaust, MOTEC ECU etc.
