Modifications for about $500.00, that I can do myself
I'm wondering what I could do to add a little bit more power to my stock 951, but at the same time still be reliable. Like "plug and play" modifications. Would some Chips and a LBE be around 500.00? Is there even ANYTHING that is good enough to get for 500.00? hahaha....
Just Wondering....

A good set of chips from Vitesse or Guru (which includes a FPR and Reliaboost). Do search for either and you'll find a ton of info.
I would recommend takling any maintenance issues before modifying. That being said, chips are the single greatest upgrade you can make. Followed by a wastegate and then the suspension.

Get yourself a Guru 15 or 18 psi chip kit....it includes a Reliaboost MBC-Wastegate shims- 3 bar FPR and DME/KLR chips all for under $500 bucks and will give you between 40-70 crankhorsepower!!

If you don't baseline your car before doing mods then the chances of something going wrong or breaking is alot higher than if you do all your vac lines...hoses....j-pipe etc.......
if you don't work on your car either you should try and have at least a $1000-$2000 in the bank for maintenance that WILL come up!
These cars on average cost around 2K a year to run in regular maintenance and upkeep, they are relatively cheap to buy .....but they are not cheap to run.......its still a Turbo-charged Porsche!!!!!

I agree with you on that one, thanks again for all your information. I have owned my car now for a while, and got it when i was 15, so I am learning alot from this site, to help me understand what all is involved. My car was in good shape, all records when I bought it, but I failed to realize about the timing belt, which cost me about 2,000 and I am in college now. I have considered selling it, but I can't seem to part with it, I love it too much

Chips (Guru, package includes DME/KLR chips, FPR, Wastegate shims, and MBC) -$400
FPR (3 BAR Fuel Pressure Regulator, to ensure proper fuel delivery for your new chips)
MBC (Manual boost controller, can also be used to bypass the cycling valve)
Testpipe (Cat bypass pipe, boost builds sooner, improves MPG, can solve overheating problem) -$120
Diveter/BOV (Simple plug in upgrade, I've heard great things about the Evos and Forge units) -$120
Wastegate (Guru, holds 18psi strong to redline) -$200
These together should give around a 60-70+hp increase, all for less than $1k
The wastegate is not really that difficult to install, it took me about 15 minutes my first time.
